Hi, I've been using 10.4.8 JaS for about 2 weeks, and was pained to find out I can only use 1024x768. Then after talking about it with a friend I looked into it and found callisto. Thats all working. (I used build 6). But I've searched all over this forum for days trying to find out how to get QE and CI running. When I installed Osx i had QE and CI, but confined to 1024, which appears to be the general pattern around here.

Any help would be GREATLY appreaciated

See the FAQ page for Callisto...and if you don't have luck with the 006, try the 008 (the one I find best for my 9600 Pro).

How do I get the QE/CI/OpenGL KEXTs to work with Callisto?

Look in your /System/Library/Extensions folder for ATIRadeonXXXXGA.plugin/ (XXXX depends on your card model).

Edit its Info.plist, under IOProviderClass key change "IONDRVFramebuffer" to "CallistoFB"

Delete Extensions.mkext and Extensions.kextcache, then reboot.

I've been dying for this too. Would love to know if it works.

  • 3 weeks later...

Boris's method still does not work for many people, seeing as the devID for the 9600xt (4152) is already in the kext file for ATI {censored}.

as I see it now, some people get lucky with getting QE/CI to work with the 9600xt and some people don't. I can get everything else function properly for my computer, but there seems to be no solution for getting QE/CI to work (collisto's method doesn't work, katana won't work, boris's, etc)

h/e, if someone DOES know a method that will work no matter what, please post :censored2:

In a terminal type

sudo -s

(enter your user password)

nano /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin/Contents/Info.plist

Look for this line

<string>IONDRVFramebuffer</string>

And change it to

<string>CallsitoFB</string>

Save and exit nano

Next type

touch /system/library/extensions/

Finally type in

reboot

That should get it working with the CallistoFB and QE/CI enabled.

thanks JaS! but even after editing the radeon9700ga.plugin, QE/CI still won't work. i'm not sure why. i tried messing around with some other stuff just a second ago and it crashed my system, so i'm reinstalling for like the 15th time :\

I have tried every possible solution as well with 10.4.8 and I am going to smack in another drive and try 10.4.9 to see if that gets me anywhere. I feel your pain, for sure. QE/CI is the only thing that I can't get to work and it sucks. Maybe 10.4.9 will fix it, I hope.

Callisto is not related to QE/CI, it brings resolution and refresh rate change, so you'd better try to get QE and CI before complicating things with it. Boris badenov method is for x1000 series so don't waste your time. Also, support for ATI's prior to x1000 has been dropped after 1047, so any later version won't support it (unless you bring the older kexts and openGL.framework). Your problem could be due to a missing device ID. Some ATIs won't work whatever you do, the only hope is to flash the BIOS but it gives quite good results. You could consider flashing your ATI with an other BIOS of a card that is known to work and to be close of yours.

@ Amped, may i know are you using 10.4.8 JAS SSe2 / SSe3 with PPF1 / PPF2 installer iso?

if yes, may i know did you ticked the nvidia / ati option during your installation? i tried both ways yet no display after a successful installation. it went blank after the Apple boot logo & the "beachvolley" ball cursor. i'm using ATI 9600 Pro 256Mb AGP card.
