OMX-Knuckles
VLC can play 720p videos and a Mac Pro is plenty fast enough- but torrenting an HD-DVD would be an epic achievement seeing as they can be 5 times are large as a standard DVD. Largest torrent I've ever seen done is around 15GB of anime by a buddy of mine. I'd imagine that a HD-DVD would be that size at the absolute minimum. You're talking at least a week of on and off downloading, and that's assuming the torrent has several consistant seeders.
sev7en
Try using the subversion builds of VLC: they work with most advanced formats. You can get these (nighly) builds from here: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/macosx-intel/
Fossie
OMX-Knuckles im guessing you've never downloaded uncompressed 720p from HDbits Vlc is good for playing 720p, but on my iMac (c2d 20") 1080p has problems and I have to play them in windows. What format is the file? .ts .mkv?
