majorp
I about to buy a new pc. Looking at spending about £550 ($950) for the base unit only. Can anyone recommend a setup that is going to work 100% with this version of osx86. Also i have searched around but is there an actually install dvd for this version or is it the image transfer method only. Thanks !!
urbanmac
The guys at i-hacked built a cheap setup: http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/202/42/ Only $200 but more like £200 in the UK also look at: http://www.osx86.theplaceforitall.com/howto/ He recommends a AS Rock P4DUAL-915GL (which I have ordered) because of the onboard graphics and although he installs a Celeron D he recommends a P4 with Hyper Threading. I'm building my own system as well but have founf to my cost that there are revisions of motherboards that do not always support the processor you may have. paulicat
If I were you I wouldnt buy the asrock board...I have the 775 asrock and am returning it to the store for the asus P5GD1-VM...10.4.3 acpi is messed up on the asrock boards, shutdown does not power off, and sleep causes a lock up. Plus the asus board has been said to be 20 points faster than the asrock in opengl xbench scores... Furthermore, the asrock boards require the ac97 kext for sound, the Asus board uses the built in azalia driver, so no need for any drivers outside base install at all. cyrana
If you get a 945G board with ALC882 chipset for sound it should work just fine as well.
