lord xeon
Ok, i've searched the forums for the past few days trying to find a solution, and i have found many things that have helped me get through the install, but something keeps comming up, and screwing with it at the last minute. here's a little up front info hardware motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2 processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe 2.13GHz graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT RAM: 2GB DDR2 hard disk: WD 250GB SATA tried with osx86 10.4.4 & 10.4.6 with 10.4.6: My problem started with getting the "waiting for root device" error on loading osx, i was able to fix that by hooking up my optical drive via usb, that let me boot up all the way no issues. After that, it wasn't too bad, i just followed the on screen instructions, and installed it. But when it got to the restart part it gave me the three lines error: continuing done MACH Reboot I had to go to class at this point, so i left it in the hands of my (very computer savy) roommate. He left it there for about 20 mins, then hard rebooted it. He said it booted up the apple screen, but just stayed there forever. When i got back from class i decided to try reinstalling it from the begining again. Everything went exactly the same, got the same error on reboot, only this time when i rebooted, i got the PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER After some searching, i found out that when osx doesnt finish rebooting, it doesnt make the partition active, so i tried to reboot into the osx disk and do it from there. When i got to the disk uitility part, there was no disk showing up. Couldnt find it anywhere. So i tried the UBCD, that didnt find the disk either. I tried to put the osx disk back in, and now that wouldn't boot. So i repeated the whole process of isntalling again with 10.4.6, and this time, it couldnt finish installing because of an error on the disk. with 10.4.4 Next i found an old 10.4.4 disk i had made along time ago, and tried the whole thing again with that one. I had to use USB to boot, but that was nothing. Installed it fine, but it took at least 90 mins. On reboot, i got the same error. Still couldnt find the drive when i booted up into osx, and this time, the UBCD wouldnt even boot up. So i took the hd out and put it in another computer, loaded up UBCD, that didn't find the drive at first, but after doing some digging, it found it. So i tried to make the partition active, but according to it, there were no partitions there. Spent about 20 mins playing with that, then just gave up. I put it back into my computer, tried to boot up the osx disk again, couldnt do that, couldnt boot into osx, so i gave up. Now i put vista back on it, but i made 2 partitions, one 45gb one for mac, and the remaining for vista. I really would like to get this working, and i'm so close to getting it, can someone help me figure out what i did wrong, and how to do it right? success2be
Try using the JaS 10.4.8 ISO image that includes PPF1 and PPF2 patch. You can find it on one of the popular torrent search sites. Since you have Core 2 Duo, you may need to deactivate 1 core in BIOS to get your install working. lord xeon
Try using the JaS 10.4.8 ISO image that includes PPF1 and PPF2 patch. You can find it on one of the popular torrent search sites. that is one of the other things i'm looking to do, the only problem is that i dont know when i'll be able to begin the download, (can't access bitorrent from where i am currently) so if there's a way to do it with 10.4.6, or 10.4.4 that'd be great. now that you mention deactivating one core in the bios, i remember reading it, but i guess i forgot to try that method. lord xeon
Ok, i got the JaS 10.4.8 iso burrned it, and installed it. The first time i did it it gave an error 5 minutes into the install. I unchecked everything except Common hardware, and the Intel one. I rebooted to it, and just installed it as is but with the Intel box checked off. It rebooted fine, but then it just gets to the gray background with the apple logo and spinning icon. After about 3 minutes, the spinning thing freezes, and after 15 minutes, nothing happens, so i hard reboot. I tried booting into the install DVD and it freezes at a brand new screen in verbose mode. In the UBCD, the partition is listed as active. Any ideas? I rebooted into osx dvd, and this time in -v mode, it gives this text: SAM Multimedia: Read or Write error.... lord xeon
Ok, I reinstalled it and unchecked everything except what it wouldnt let me uncheck, and the Intel patch, it installed perfectly fine, rebooted fine, and went into mac. However, network card doesnt work, sound doesnt work, and display is at 1024x768, with no options to change that. How can i install patches/drivers for at least the network card, and sound? success2be
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page and search for "Natit". I'm able to play World of Warcraft at full video settings and still get average of 25fps on my GeForce 7600GT. I'll give the steps of everything i did in next Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47924-install-problem/#findComment-346206 Share on other sites
lord xeon
Ok, to get osx86 working on my hardware: motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2 processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe 2.13GHz graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT RAM: 2GB DDR2 hard disk: WD 250GB SATA these are the steps i took: 1. Download the JaS 10.4.8 ISO image that includes PPF1 and PPF2 patch. 2. Burn that to a DVD. 3. When it gets to the "Press any key to install Darwin x86 or press F8 to continue" Press F8, type in "-v" without the quotes. This will bring up verbose mode, and will allow you to see if you have an error. There are various errors i've gotten, and the one thing that fixes all of them is to have your optical drive plugged into a USB drive. either get an external DVD drive, or a USB caddy that supports optical drives too. 4. When it gets to the install screen, check Disk Utility to make sure that OSX sees your hard drive. If it doesn't see it, turn your computer off, and try plugging the SATA connector into another port. 4. a. I noticed that the SATA ports closest to the processor are the ones that OSX recognizes, so mine is plugged into the middle yellow one. 5. If OSX sees your hard drive, use disk utility to erase the entire hard drive and make ia mac extended journaled. 6. When you get to the install options, uncheck EVERYTHING except the Intel ones Not only will this cut about 15 mins off your install, but i know it works. When i installed in with common hardware and the printer drivers it installed fine, but then hung after it rebooted on the grey apple screen. 7. You can let it check the disk, i did the first time i used it to make sure it was ok, then i just skipped the check for the other 3 times i did it. 8. Get something to do for 20 mins or so. Macboe
Also, how did you solve the PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER error? I'm having that problem after it installed but freezes on boot (so now I'm just going to try and reinstall with only the intel patch). lord xeon
Lord Xeon, I wiuld like to know how you got the sound going on the GA-965GM-S2. I got everything else going great, can't manage to get sound. Tkx. the link provided in this post: this post is what i used to get my sound and network working. 5.1 sound works fine, as does the network card, however i don't know if its the full 10/100/1000 connection, i suspect its only 10/100 because of the time it took to transfer some files between my network hooked up via gigabit switch, but thats trivial anyway. (if the link no longer works, or the file isnt there anymore, pm me, and i can send it to you) Also, how did you solve the PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER error? I'm having that problem after it installed but freezes on boot (so now I'm just going to try and reinstall with only the intel patch). install it only with the intel patch, uncheck everything, they arent needed. Printer drivers is the only thing maybe, but 99% of those can be downloaded from the manufacturer's site anyway. hope that helps both of you...
