BebopBlues
Using compressor with the latest update, it would take 40 minutes to compress a one minute DV movie to MPEG2. I tried Visualhub and it took 2 minutes to convert the same clip. Both Compressor and Visualhub are UB apps so I have no idea why Compressor is so slow. Is it because of the AMD processor? Anyone running OSx86 on AMD experiencing the same slow performance? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45710-compressor-is-slow/ Share on other sites
asap18
It might be that compressor uses alot of sse3 instructions. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45710-compressor-is-slow/#findComment-327155 Share on other sites
Baliw
Made some test: System used see my sig. 702 mb (divx) to DVD conversion: Under OSX : Compressor = 3 hours 36 mins. Visual Hub = 2 hours Under Vista : ConverXtoDVD = 1 hour 30 mins. So yeah compressor is slow Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45710-compressor-is-slow/#findComment-327327 Share on other sites
BebopBlues
The speed difference varies between encoders used and quality settings, so it doesn't necessary mean converXtoDVD is greater than visualhub or compressor. Visualhub works for me and is speedy, it uses FFMPEG to encode I think. But I think compressor does a better job in terms of conversion quality. I've used it on a dual G5 and while its not the fastest encoder, it does produce high quality MPEG2 DVD compliant videos. asap18 maybe right about the SSE3 thing. Bummer, I doubt of a way to work around this. I guess VisualHub will do for now. Is there another video batch converter/encoder for OSX (intel)? I don't think Cleaner is updated to an UB app or if the product even exist anymore. riktor
Interesting, most AMD users have an aecore exception error with anything related to compressor or qmaster. Possibly this error has something to do with SSE3 not working as expected on OSX.
