You can use both cores with 10.4.8 and 8.8.1 kernel, just search at the forum.

With 10.4.9 and the 8.9.1 kernel they are both supported, you even have a option in the system Preferences to use one or both cores.

where have you read this?

O, good, so i can use both cores. nice..

I read it in an installation guide on OSx86 project - http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Simple_Dual_Boot

"-If you have a dual core cpu then you have to disable one core. You can do this in the Bios. (updated by joost :)"

ok, awesome. Im happy now ^_^

Deleting it after the install will do.

Just for the record, i'm on an intel coru duo, and replaced the ..Ata...kext and the AppleSMBios.kext

Better yet, i used Paulicat's method.

And then deleted the file from Windows with Macdrive.

Added fsb=133 to the com.apple.boot.plist.

No problems so far :)

With both cores enabled you'll get an error about ACPI, after deleting the file, OS X will boot as usual.

So if you don't run Windows, disable 1 core, boot, delete the file, enable both cores, and pray it works for you as it worked for me :D

Backing up the file would be a good idea too, i just thought of that :P

But if it works, please report it, it could help a lot of people, and maybe could get a spot @ the genius bar :)

I used kernel mifki without hpet....

And for 10.4.9 the beta kernel, also without the IOPCCardFamily...

didnt work for my dell inspiron6400, intel T2050 core duo

ive always been able to boot fine but get a stutter effect using both cores. i really want to solve this problem but im starting to doubt it will ever happen. have been waiting for a fix to come along for months now.

without it, to me, osx is pretty much useless.

Yes i have try that on Dell Inspiron 9400.Is not working with my system.I Have upgradet to Jas 10.4.9 pack, with new kernel 8.9.1.Sleep mode is working now,but not Duo core.I don´t know wich kernel type it is,but that kernel was with Jas new upgrade pack, maybe thats the problem? How can i upgrade to mifki kernel.Autoupdate script will be nice.

Why's it useless? I have a dell 1505/6400 and I'm happy with my OS X side even with one core enabled. I use final cut and all those pro applications on it and they all run fine and dandy. Though I'd like the dual cores enabled it hasn't been a huge problem for me. After they fixed the sound for the sigmatel 9200 i haven't had an issue with it.

i only want osx to produce music using logic. music production requires alot of cpu power so until i can use both cores im better off using cubase on xp. it seems silly to waste half my cpu power even though logic is the better program.

how did you get sigmatel 9200 working? i didnt realize it had been fixed.

mmmmmmm..... I don't think the problem be the T2050.... I've the OSX running on a T2050 with boot cores enabled!

The problem isn't the hardware, it's to do with Dell's badly programmed BIOS which doesn't follow the same spec as any other laptops, that is why we suffer from this eternal stuttering issue with both cores enabled.

Also, our boards are ICH7-M, meaning we should be able to use AHCI mode with SATA-II NCQ compatible hard-disks, but Dell decided to leave that feature out in the BIOS too B)

Great to be with Dell isn't it? heh.

When they get programmers that know what the f£$% they are doing and actually conform to proper standards.

I'm half tempted to sell my Inspiron and never buy another Dell product ever again.

My gf bought a Macbook Pro and man, it has to be the most beautifully constructed laptop on the planet.

I know what I'm buying when I get some dosh together ;)
