izzysanime
One core in a dual core pc needs to be disabled? I was reading that instructions in the wiki, I really would not want to disable one, is there a hack for it? thanks, Josh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45576-one-core-in-a-dual-core-pc-needs-to-be-disabled/ Share on other sites

WaldMeister
You can use both cores with 10.4.8 and 8.8.1 kernel, just search at the forum. With 10.4.9 and the 8.9.1 kernel they are both supported, you even have a option in the system Preferences to use one or both cores. izzysanime
I notice some sarcasm here For the 10.4.8 delete the IOPCCardFamily.kext Deleting that, will make it work with both cores? Do i delete it after it is installed, or delete from the downloaded image? WaldMeister
Deleting it after the install will do. Just for the record, i'm on an intel coru duo, and replaced the ..Ata...kext and the AppleSMBios.kext Better yet, i used Paulicat's method. And then deleted the file from Windows with Macdrive. Added fsb=133 to the com.apple.boot.plist. No problems so far With both cores enabled you'll get an error about ACPI, after deleting the file, OS X will boot as usual. So if you don't run Windows, disable 1 core, boot, delete the file, enable both cores, and pray it works for you as it worked for me Backing up the file would be a good idea too, i just thought of that But if it works, please report it, it could help a lot of people, and maybe could get a spot @ the genius bar I used kernel mifki without hpet.... And for 10.4.9 the beta kernel, also without the IOPCCardFamily... Why's it useless? I have a dell 1505/6400 and I'm happy with my OS X side even with one core enabled. I use final cut and all those pro applications on it and they all run fine and dandy. Though I'd like the dual cores enabled it hasn't been a huge problem for me. After they fixed the sound for the sigmatel 9200 i haven't had an issue with it. The problem isn't the hardware, it's to do with Dell's badly programmed BIOS which doesn't follow the same spec as any other laptops, that is why we suffer from this eternal stuttering issue with both cores enabled. Also, our boards are ICH7-M, meaning we should be able to use AHCI mode with SATA-II NCQ compatible hard-disks, but Dell decided to leave that feature out in the BIOS too Great to be with Dell isn't it? heh. fruitylooper
so its a dell specific problem. hmmm, how likely is it that we will ever have a fix for it? devilhood
When they get programmers that know what the f£$% they are doing and actually conform to proper standards. I'm half tempted to sell my Inspiron and never buy another Dell product ever again. My gf bought a Macbook Pro and man, it has to be the most beautifully constructed laptop on the planet. asstastic
it seems ather are several dual core issues out there. i have a core duo laptop and had to delete the AppleIntelPowerManagement (may not be the exact name) kext otherwise it would freeze on boot.
