I havent had a chance to try again, but why delete the ati extensions if i'm running ati x800? Should I delete then -f to rebuild extensions? Kind of strange but I got it to work once. I installed it on my nvidia machine...c2d.. USB HARD DRIVE...plugged it into my ATIx800 p4 and it worked! I was just stupid to format the drive and try again with another hard drive because i didnt want to dedicate that drive at the time. But thats odd to delete the ATI extensions (since previously i didnt customize with ati, just nvida) and it did work. Thanks alot for your help guys.

try deleting all ati kext from the system/library/extensions/ folder worked for me i have an ati radeon x700.

If I boot without any options, after IMG_2891.jpg this screen system goes to suspend mode (display turns off) and all i can is to reset.

When I hold shift while boot process - I also have a blank (close to white) screen.

How do i correctly delete ati kext files? (I mean if repair permissions and clear kext cache needed? If so, how to do it?)

I have a similar problem ... i tried to get resolutionchange with a ati 9550, followed a callisto instal tutorial ..but i got some kernel panic. i tried to install tiger 10.4.8 again but now it just goes to the point where the screen goes black. I tried to boot it in safe mode with -x but i still get the black screen ... any suggestion on what i could try?

I've deleted all ATI .kext folders (even ATINDRV.kext) from system/library/extensions. Now the display doesn't turn off. But now I get screen as I showed in previous post and I have to

ook at it for ever.

As it written in shell when you boot it, use

/sbin/fsck -fy

/sbin/mount -uw /

to be able to modify files.

then delete files and folders using rm and rmdir commands.

At last fix permissions and clear kext cache:

rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions

Works. Thanks for the advice everyone. I installed JAS 10.4.8 onto my USB 10GB hard drive with my CD2 e6300 Gigabyte DS3,and nVIDIA 7800GT. I didnt install ATI support, just Nvidia..installed....booted into OS, did the configuration setup and was in. Then I took the USB HD with MAC OSX on it to my other Computer "P4 3.0GHZ, Asus P5RD1-V ATI x800 GT card, and booted from USB. OSX loaded, and I was in with the minor hassal of having to press f8, and boot "cpus=1 -v graphics mode"="1024x768x32" ". Now i am trying to work on sound, and installing final cut.

Hi Mates

I have the same problem. I have one question before I try your solution. How do I delete if I don't boot? If anyone succeeded can you please give us a list of he files you deleted. I have an ATI Radeon 9000 mobility.

Thanks beforehand

do2000, there is a thread for you: Ati Mobility radeon 9000 (It helps to find the best driver, but not to boot GUI for the first time if safe mode doesn't help). Anyway I haven't seen yet a solution what to do if a kext removing doesn't help.

What about me - the kexts removing doesn't provide ability to boot to safe mode in GUI, it either makes the system boot to a blank ligth screen. Another attemp I've made - adding the Device ID to some ATI kext - in my case it is 0x4699 (I suppose Radeon 9000 to be supported by ATIRadeon8500.kext). All I have now is blinking light screen (with flitting streaks) instead of still light one ;)

Try reinstalling and doing a custom install with out ATI kext support. That worked for my x800 GT

I've tried to install without "Titan ati and nvidia" option and nothing changes. I've selected only Intel ATA and most common drivers - I don't think it's a good idea to inslall OSX without most common drivers component.

Update: I've just intalled JAS 10.4.8 again and selected an option JAS intel ATA and nothing more. Now it works! But currently I'm looking for a suitable Radeon 9000 driver. (It works in default video mode)

Any one have any luck with the AppleHDA patcher? I tried it on two different machines, no luck.

Hi you guys and girls too! :tomato:

I am having the same prob. JaS Dvd 10.4.8. I am using a intel motherboard and SSE3 CPU. Can install 10.4.5 fine. Also tried the update EGWANNY method but that gives me a blue circle screen that goes on forever and ever. (haha).

On both ways either EGWANNY method or JaS DVD 10.4.8, I either end up with a BLUE SCREE or with JaS a message saying PLEASE RESTART COMPUTER sort of black and grey. Using JaS I install the ummmm, hmm, oh the GMA950 and I think thats it.

Any ideas? Or maybe someone knows how to upgrade from 10.4.5 to 10.4.8 or is it that 10.4.9 is the newest thing so there is not much help with this sort of topic?

Well I am having no luck at all.

The only discs I have are JaS DVD 10.4.5 and 10.4.8 and 10.4.5 installs fine but can't figuire out how to update or just do a clean install.

Weird.

If anyone knows, please let me know.

redsox,

what are your systems specs?

I was able to get it running on 2 different machines. The ATI x800, i just installed TITAN Nvidia support and it worked fine? Which is odd. On my NVIDIA machine, I used TITAN and it worked. I cant get the sound to work. I tried the AppleHDA patcher, but no luck. alc861 for the ASUS p5rd1-v

Alright, simple solution for this:

ONLY check off nVidia drivers in the installation if you're using a nVidia 6xxx card (NV40). If you aren't, then don't check it off to install, as the regular default drivers will work just fine. This will fix the black screen problem when booting.
