Hi all,

I have been religiously going thro' the OSX86 Project wiki and InsanelyMac Forums andh have some last minute Qs before I finally get into the installation process...

1. Can I install the MacOSX using VMware and then boot normally from HDD using Darwinm/GRUB boot loader at startup?

2.a. I have gotten info with regards to my rig that it "Works perfectly with Jas 10.4.7 + Apple 10.4.8 combo update + semthex kernel beta8 : Source ". Now do I get the upgrade from apple's site? or from elsewhere (Where?) ?

OR

2.b. should I directly get Jas 10.4.8???

(This is becoz I got a Prescott Pentium 4 2.4Ghz procc)

More coming up!!! :tomato:

Personally with my rig I could never get a 10.4.8/8.8.1 system working using updates.. I had to just go with a clean install of the 10.4.8

So my thought would be go for the 10.4.8 setup from the start, but if you have found conflicting info for your setup Go with that.

I would even go to say send a PM to someone running your gear.. they maybe able to really help you out from the get go

either way good luck =)

ok guys...

I have burned the Mac OSX DVD and Im gonna dive in any moment now...

but just a few last moment-ers...

1. Does Mac need a SWAP partition like other *ixes?

2. I plan to use Mac exclusively for Adobe CS2 and Macromedia Flash. Do u think a 10Gb partition will suffice?

3. I can access my mp3s which are all on a Fat32 partition without much modifications, right?

Also, I dint get any replies for my earlier Question, which I am repeating here...

4. Can I install Mac OSX using VMware from Windows itself and then dual boot it separately on restart?? :dev:

Thanks in advance,

Prav.

PS: I think I will dive in As soon as I get my replies :)

1. No, OS X uses swap files.

2. 10GB would be sufficient to hold just that, but I would go for at least 100GB for future. BTW, CS2 will run tediously slow on your rig, if you're a graphic/design professional, you would not like the speed. Most of my friends who bought Mac Pro for CS2, all of their Mac Pro ended up collecting dust at the moment, and they all went back to the good old Mac G5. Well... until Adobe come up with the universal binary CS3, until then...

3. Yes, you can access mp3 files there.

4. I don't think you can.

I dont find the Darwin boot loader so friendly, esp. considering that my parents and sis are working on this machine...

so im planning to install Win GRUB... what do u guys say???

PS: I could abandon the idea of installing WinGRUB if someone tells me how to make Windoze partition the default boot :D
