james2mart
This documentary was aired on the Discovery Channel March 4th, 2007 8-10PM CST. errandwolfe
The "evidence" presented here was all very circumstantial. If this were a trial, I would say the documentary loses. gwprod12
It could all very well be true. But the evidence itself is just BS. Even if it was conclusively proven that the child was the child of that Mary and that Jesus, nothing whatsoever proves that the Jesus and Mary in the tomb were THE Jesus and Mary in the bible. Anyways, most of this "evidence" was debunked decades ago. The three lynch-pin claims of the documentary: That Jesus and Mary must be husband and wife because they werent genetically related. That the patina in the Yeshua ossuary and the patina in the James Ossuary (of disputed provedance in and of itself) were related And that the James Ossuary was part of the collection. Have been disputed by the people who were originally quoted as the source of the claims. Jesus and Mary cannot be proven to be married with any form of genetic test. (DUH) The patina in the Yeshua Ossuary has not been linked to the patina of the James Ossuary in any way. The original excavator of the tomb found no ossuary inscribed with James, Brother of Jesus. Anyways, that's just my take Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44708-lost-tomb-of-jesus-documentary/#findComment-320324 Share on other sites
james2mart
someone also could have gone in X years after and put the names on the ossuaries as a hoax.... we can never know for sure, and we can't even put an accurate statistic on it like the film does. The statistics in the film were also very very liberal as opposed to the conservative presentation of them... james2mart
Not only does the Bible disagree with this, but people that disagree with the Bible disagree with this. Hell, the scientific method disagrees with this. The filmmakers "PROVED" that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married because the mitochondrial DNA test proved they didn't have the same mother. That's like saying my cousin and I are married because we don't have the same mother. Bu||$hitaki mushrooms. and gwprod, Humble yourself and admit that you could be wrong about the Bible. If you are, then you're screwed for eternity. Or burned. Either way, it'll suck for you. gwprod12
I dont see why I should have to acknowledge that I might be wrong, when you wont ;-p The bible is a lure for stupid people to enslave themselves to others. Whatever floats your boat. I am not wrong about the bible. I might be wrong about God, in which case, I'd rather live in hell than with the evil folks at God's right hand. As for the documentary, maybe its true maybe its not, does it really matter? So maybe Jesus Fuc.ked from time to time? Is that so bad? Does it change who you are 2000 years later? I sure as hell hoped not. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44708-lost-tomb-of-jesus-documentary/#findComment-334525 Share on other sites
brainbone
This documentary only sets out to raise questions in order to gain momentum for further research (and, well, make some $$ off a little bit of sensationalization. it is America after all). It doesn't claim to have any conclusive evidence. It only asks you to ask questions. To think. What exactly is wrong with that? If this was about any other historical character, say, Cleopatra, would this thread even exist?! The documentary are total rubbish. I haven't seen it, but the Bible disagrees with this. Please. Think for yourself. It's fine to come to the conclusion of rubbish, but use your own mind to do it. zenchicken
If christians spent less time worried about historical facts, and read more of what they say is their god's word, the world would be a better place. Who cares if Jesus was married or had a son, when he left a beautiful message that is much ignored nowadays by his so-called followers: "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Who cares if Jesus was married or had a son, when he left a beautiful message that is much ignored nowadays by his so-called followers: "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Well Jesus is a contradictory character, because he will in one sentence say "Love thy neighbor as thyself" and in the next sentence say "If your hand or eyes causes you to sin, cut it off or pluck it out" as if cutting your hand off will prevent you from sinning... Seriously, I cant stress this enough, the bible is stupid. The best morals come from logical thought and education, not fairy tales about "jesus" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44708-lost-tomb-of-jesus-documentary/#findComment-337479 Share on other sites

The best morals come from logical thought and education, not fairy tales about "jesus" Jesus spoke in parables, and I agree, some of the Bible isn't literal. What he's saying is more along the lines of like "If your PC tempts you to look at pr0n, then get rid of the PC. Or move it to the living room..." You get the idea.... Get rid of the temptations. gwprod12
What Jesus was saying was that your eyes and hands cannot cause you to sin, only you can cause yourself to sin. He was specifically referring to adultery, in that if you look at a woman (or a man, I say) with lust, that you have committed adultery in your heart. If you must blame your eyes instead of yourself, get rid of them. Obviously this is interpreted, by those who wish to blame a body part for their own conscience, to mean that the body part is responsible and should be cast away to protect the righteous soul. "If your PC tempts you to look at pr0n [sic], then put it in the living room..." Why is it always someone/something else's fault? Why, for once, cant it be your fault for wanting to look at porn. Which in my view is a great activity, and should be enjoyed by all. As they say, guns dont kill people, people kill people. Come on. Think. As an addendum: The original greek of that passage is "If your right eye should cause you to..." Your eye cannot cause you to do anything. You cause your eye, not vice versa. As a challenge, I advise all Christians to read the Jefferson Bible and to live ONLY the Jefferson Bible. Behave like Jesus the Man; Dont worship Jesus the divine. I don't agree that porn is a great activity for all, kinda degrades intimacy. I agree though that it is the person and not the body part that does the thinking. What I don't agree with is all this literal translation of a 2000-year old text, it's just stupid. Times change, technology progresses, but people don't change. More reason why the Bible still holds some relevance to our lives today. As for the documentary: all conjectures. I'm as morally corrupt as the average joe, although I'm still an idealist when it comes to the innate goodness of people. gwprod12
I should qualify my statements. If you like porn, you should look at porn. If you dont like porn, you shouldnt look at porn. You just shouldnt look at porn because someone else thinks you shouldnt look at porn, or you feel "sinful". killbot1000
There is nothing wrong with porn. It does not degrade intimacy, it all depends on the kind of person you are. Just because you see somebody else's body on the internet doesn't mean you turn into a sex crazed lunatic or anything...in all honesty you will most likely be EXACTLY the same. So I agree with gwprod, if you like looking at porn, you should look at porn. If you don't like porn, you shouldn't look at porn.
