It can be useful to know if there is hard drive activity going on while you think your machine may be locked up instead.

There are menu bar utilities that show hard drive activity, but they only help after you have finished booting up.

I bet someone could finagle that... I remember when I was trying to install Vista, one of the digital audio ports was stuck shining red until I installed drivers for it.

Someone just needs to figure out how to get direct access to that light, write some code to link it to HDD access, and tada.

Oh yeah, I forgot about menu-meters, and I alredy have that installed. Anyway, I just thought it would be neat to have an activity LED. Maybe a very bright blue one, like the white power led on G5/MacPros. It would even be ok to just make the power LED flash when there is HD activity even, you know kinda like one of my DVD burners in my pc. Whe its not working its green, but when it is working, it flashes orange/green. Oh well...............

I noticed that when I installed Fedora or Suse on my Powerbook, the sleep light became a blinking hard drive light.

It's :afro: annoying!!

The sleep light is actually quite bright, and it is very distracting.

So even if someone did develop the patch, it's not very desireable on many macs...
