Created a 49 GB Fat32 primary disk behind my windows one, booted from the DVD while getting a "Unable to mount diskos3" error,

tried to format it with the disk utillity, but I failed =/.

It just doesn't erase the disk nor mount it.

I'm using the 10.4.8 image.

Thanks in advance

i'm also having a problem with the disk utility dectecting all of my hard drives.

i have one 250 sata II hdd and one 20 gb ATA hdd.

my original plan was to have my sata II hdd boot windows, have use the seperate 20 gb hdd to boot the mac os. i formatted the 20 gb to FAT 32 prior to attempting to install the mac os but my 20 gb hdd did not even show up in the disk utility at all...

so instead after that i partitioned my sata II and put 50 gbs from my sata II drive aside for the mac os. everything formatted correctly and i (think) i had a successful install of the osx.

problem is, whenever i try and boot mac osx i get this error:

"Failed to load externsion com.apple.driver.AppleUSB0HCI"

and it will continue to say:

"Still waiting on root device"

Some problem here on dv9008nr.Will try v 10.4.7 I heard the v 10.4.8 have problem with hd detection.Did found my USB HD and was able to install on it, but will not boot from.Working on it.

BUMP

Didn't work with the 10.4.7 image either - "unable to read partition map".

I had this error two, but i fix it! how? I just found in some tutoriel (that I dont remenber) that you have to install Mac OS X in the Second partion to avoid problems Like this --Windows partition--- Mac OS partition --- then data partition! and this is what i did, and the problem is resolved for me :D I hope this may help

Yea, this helps me a lot -.-.

Thanks anyway.

Is your HDD set to master?

Is your HDD connected to your DVD drive? If so, you could try separating them and setting the DVD to master.

You should also try setting your drives manually in the BIOS.

Hope this helps,

hecker

My HDD is set to master

My DVD drives are set to slave.

U not alone Veggfx. Got the same problem. Works fine on VMWare, but not natively. Used Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1].iso + daemon patch. Almost lost hope after 2 months trying.

I didn't lost my hope yet...

Bump btw, since I can't find anything useful with the search function.

i got something that may help you if you are still able to get to windows on your box.

http://dilnalomo.googlepages.com/xposx04

a really good tutorial for the basics. then if you, for some reason. cant get back into windows to do what you need.

http://www.ubcd4win.com/

open the windows emulator that comes on the cd and use diskpart to relabel you win partition to boot. the help file in there will teach you how to use it.

and just so you know the disk util is busted in the 10.4.8 distrobutions. unless you have the patches that is. im having trouble booting osx but i got all the partitions and whatnot worked out. bout to try the patches and reinstall osx. we will see.....

hope this helps

Thanx, epicor. We all know nice dilnalomo guide, but we stuck on formatting & mounting HFS+ drive. Hope, we may not need ubcd4win yet, but if so, thank you for ur help. Its nice to see some guys want to help us on the beggining of the "long way to OSx86" anyway, isn`t it Veggfx?

cheers

if you have a windows CD you can boot up in that, press R for recove ,format the drive NTFS, fix the MBR, reboot with OS X DVD format the PARTITION **NOT THE DRIVE** and you will be golden.

:)

What exactly does the mbr have to do with formating and mounting a drive?

Could anyone confirm this?

And yes, my IDE-Drives are ATA.

Use Acronis Disk Director (or another Partitioning tool) and delete the OS X partition. For the 'Unallocated Space' change the type to ShagOS (Swap), which should label it 0xAF. Reboot into JaS DVD, use Disk Utility (10.4.8 DOES work), and format as hfs+, quit Disk Utility, install.

Then you'll have to use the Windows DVD to set ur Windows Partition active, or leave hfs+ active to run Darwin loader.

Hope this helps,

TheND ur great! Just wonder why? I did formated for linux swap allready, but no luck with HFS+ erasing/mounting at DU.

So, the rule for us is:

  • on some win partitionig soft such as PMagic, Acronis Disc Director, Paragon etc
  • delete partition
  • make freed space linux swap - dont format it here!
  • back to DU erase/mount at last

Veggfx I`m a bit ahead of u - installing 75% :thumbsup_anim:

Thanks, will try later!

Don`t wait! It`s works on mine, should too on yours.

Installation took 7min only! Remember do not register at first boot - disconnect ur net just in case.

Recognized my Ati X1800GTO, but no sound so far - damn creative, they are so lazy to make even drv for vista. I`m not going to remove this card back to Azalia, cos i need midi accses for my ol` Yamaha piano
