What is "OSXupdate.tar"? When I decompress the .TAR I get a "OSX Update" folder which contains "osx86-update.pkg" and "README.TXT"

THis is what is written inside the README.TXT

This package contains updates for your 10.4.1 installation

This has only been tested on a SSE3 proc cpu.

Highlights:

1. tun/tap driver.

2. x86 Flash Plugin.

3. Updated Safari + Webkit

4. All new Frameworks w/ SIMD optimizations.

5. Quicktime 7.0.4 x86 complete.

6. 10.4.1 Kernel with 10.4.2 exec patch.

7. SDL FAT Frameworks.

8. Growl x86 Frameworks.

Run xbench CPU test to confirm it is working properly. You should have a 50-70% better score.

this update contains some enchacements.. you can do a search in the forum to find out

what it does exactly..

it does not update your kernel,

but you get Safari 2.0 (universial binary) with flash support

The New quicktime (also unversial binary)

itunes 6.0( still ppc)

better response time and overall cpu improvements are reported..

hope this helps

To elbertic ^^

I had many difficulties because of it, too.

[How to install]

1) If a "osx86-update.pkg" folder is in XP, only go to Tiger.

2) If you look at "osx86-update.pkg" folder in Tiger, it is a installation file like exe file. (doulble click).

3) By the way, xp => ntfs (?) / fat32 (This tip works)

4) If it does not work, burn cd for "osx86-update.pkg" folder.

----------------------

I have some questions.

Q1) How many partitions and disks do you use (and, what OS & file system) ?

Q2) Did you install Tiger in ntfs partition at first?

( When you used cd_installation, did you change ntfs into hfs ? )

[Q2 => TO Everyone]

Thanks for the tip. I know my way around OS X since 10.1 :)

A1) 1st HDD has XP & 2 NTFS partitions. 2nd HDD is dedicated to Tiger. Tiger can read the 1st HDD's 2 NTFS partitions with no problem.

A2) I reformatted the 2nd HDD into Tiger's native file system, Mac OS Extended (Journalised). Tiger (and other *NIXs) cant write to NTFS.
