Did you repair the permissions on the file before you rebooted?

Also the Intel 965 chipset has some issues with OSX search the forums for fixes

Seagate drives and OSX don't like each other.

Drop in some other brand and you will instantly get better results.

And you've reached that conclusion how?

I've attached a screen shot of the xbench results i get with a seagate and osx

And I do believe that the test thy ran was performed on a Western Digital disk as reported in the disk type field of xbench

sorry for asking some dumb questions .....

How to repair the permissions ???

I did follow the steps in the that tutorial like below.

1) Download AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext from here: (Thank you, madcowsb!)

(Double-click it to extract it.)

2) In a terminal:

cd /System/Library/Extensions/

sudo mv AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext.disabled (Just in case you already have this kext installed. If not, you may receive an error. Don't worry about it.)

sudo cp [path to downloaded file]/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext ./

sudo chown -R root:wheel AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext

3) Reboot and enjoy a speed boost.

but nothing happen

or should I remove my seagate IDE HD ?

seagate HDs work just fine the problem is your ioatafamily isnt really working, in latest jas disk amd + intell sse3 sse2 there are drivers for your system ich8

thanks, I'll try it.

but about the patch mention here "ICH7R/8R patch for JaS 10.4.8 Intel/AMD SSE2/SSE3"

the post said the patch is for someone who can't install on a sata drive or failed to format during the installation.

I think I don't have those problems since I already installed it on my WD sata drive.

don't know if it's the same one you said in the lastest jas disk....?

Is that what I need?

thank you ;)

I had a similar problem with slow disk access, then I added platform=x86pc and -v to the startup sequence. I theorize this is because of OS X and power management on SATA drives, I have two WD Raptors on SATA and when I disable them OS X worked great. So the x86pc disables power management, though for some reason it didnt work without adding -v... oh well, it gets rid of my apple boot logo but performance is on par with a macbook pro now.
