So, there's our first look at Vista. It does benefit from a lot of good ideas, many of them Apple's, of course, but good nevertheless. It simply doesn't work very well, unfortunately. There are serious problems with execution; it's not polished; it's not ready. It should not be on the market, and certainly not for the outrageous prices being charged. Don't buy it, at least until after the first service pack is out. Don't pay to be a beta tester. ®

So apparently I am not the only one who believes that you get charged an outrageous price for something which is {censored}: €600, or $780 in Ireland for the stand-alone version of Vista Ultimate.

It shouldn't be surprising there's complaints this early in release, but I know how you guys like FUD

And how is it FUD that Vista costs $780 in an EU country vs. $380 in the US?

And how is it FUD that Vista costs $780 in an EU country vs. $380 in the US?

FUD was only referring to the the bugs/confusion part of the title and I guess I could have left it out

The price is just the way it goes, the European market is different then the US, get over it or order it somewhere else.

The price is just the way it goes, the European market is different then the US...

But this is the first time ever that I have seen something computer related costing twice as much in Europe.

And how is it FUD that Vista costs $780 in an EU country vs. $380 in the US?

then buy it in america lol, im sure the key would work if you wanted to do that and download a localized version on the internet.... itd be alot cheeper!

I don't know if you can. Most American shops refuse to ship overseas, and if they do the costs are tremendous. Maybe the only option is Ebay.

First, it's The Register, the home of anti-MS morons, second, they're bloody clueless.

Here are some things they (And most people elsewhere) claim Microsoft 'copied' from Apple: Gadgets / Sidebar - despite being in Longhorn build 3683 in 2002, where as Apple released Widgets / Dashboard in OS X 10.4 in 2005 but Microsoft is the one who copied, right ? Sigh.. They than go on to say how they copied Spotlight despite the search in Vista being present in the earliest of Longhorn builds pre-dating 10.4 by many YEARS, also, Virtual Folders were present in Longhorn YEARS before OS X.

They also go on about iPhoto vs Photo where, aside from the left toolbar (Which is vastly different) and the photos on the right they're very, very different. There's also other stupid places where they claim Microsoft has copied and each are about as stupid and ridiculous as the previous ones I've called them out on.

If you actually try to claim that Microsoft copied Apple, on the above, and other things, you're just plain clueless.

These morons even bring up the 'retail confusion' rubbish which is just that.. rubbish.. hell, the whole article is just a waste of bandwidth, reported.

There is much more to the article than claiming that MS copied from Apple.

But all you can do is to rubbish the whole article and call everybody who dares to criticize MS "morons"

Trouble is, there are too many "morons" around these days: every single day I read at least a couple of articles criticizing Vista.

And is the claim about the price of Vista in Europe also rubbish?

Alas, difficult times for Microsoft shills...

No, I don't call everybody who criticises MS morons, only those who lie, have no logic, no backing, do no research, etc - which is basically what this article does though there are quite a few decent parts.

Please stop lying and saying I'm saying things (That I call everybody who criticises MS, a moron), thanks. Oh, and please stop the personal attacks ("Microsoft shill').

Oh, and please stop the personal attacks ("Microsoft shill').

Dictionary.com, definition of shill:

"a person who publicizes or praises something or someone for reasons of self-interest, personal profit, or friendship or loyalty."

It doesn't sound like an insult to me...

Well, where have I either publicized or praised Vista ? And if you can find an instance, how have I done so for self-interest, personal profit, or friendship/loyalty ?

Also, if you do find an instance, how are you going to weird it out as simply an opinion (I am entitled to one, right ?) or as falling into the 'shill' category ?

I look forward to your findings, as long as you don't lie again.

It is seven o'clock in the morning here and I haven't gone to bed yet.

But I have already done a quick search (besides remembering personally) and I have found quite a bit: you seem to be always there when it comes to defending MS and, sometimes, attacking Apple.

To the point that one might wonder what you are doing in this forum: I don't go to Microsoft forums attacking Windows and writing in favor of OS X.

If there weren't so many ignorant and inaccurate attacks, maybe there'd be a little bit less 'defence' or so ?

I'm here to get help, and on rare occasion, help others, with OSX86 though I dabble in correcting people, like when they claim Vista is just a new skin on XP.

I've attacked Apple.. where ? I'll call them out on things like lying and attacking their competitors, otherwise I don't really 'attack' Apple unless I've forgotten something.

"I don't go to Microsoft forums attacking Windows and writing in favor of OS X."

I don't go to Apple forums attacking OS X and writing in favour of Windows, either.
