"Movies purchased and downloaded from the iTunes Store can be viewed on a computer, Apple TV or fifth generation iPod® and most are priced at $9.99 (US) each. Movies downloaded from the iTunes Store are downloaded in near-DVD quality at a resolution of 640x480 (up to 480, depending on the aspect ratio)."

When do you think Apple will offer higher resolution content? And this brings the question, will higher quality content of the same media cost more to the consumer? After all, better quality means more bandwidth...

Well, HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray discs are considered premium content and cost more than Standard Def. DVDs, so I would imagine that the cost of having the high-quality (Bandwidth, Compression, DRM) will be passed on to the paying customers like us.

With the added HDCP DRM restrictions. Apple really needs to get HD Content available on iTunes before users invest in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray set top players. Otherwise, it may see a decrease in Apple TV sales if you can't get HD Content on your HDTV from iTunes. I would imagine the hold up is Leopard.

I think Apple indeed will be offering HD content because that market is the one they want,so to fully complete the circle of the "home entertainment" Apple must take the tv and movies and both will be coming in HD.

On the money/quality question , its sort of obvious that the people always pays for the price of the "new" technology .

i think apple will eventually offer itunes users a choice to purchase in hd or standard. hd will probably cost a dollar or two more and will obviously take longer to download, but theyll leave it up to the buyer to decide. but unless they get into that market theyll be left behind...

Wel I am paying 9.99$ a month to my ISP and he is still alive, so it can't be about the bandwith. I doubt that we will soon get HD content on the web because the movie bros worries about the big HD pirate.
