JaS 10.4.8 DVD install problems...

Well, i am getting sick of this installation process.

Here are the exact steps i take to install:

Originally, i had my HD and DVD burner on seperate IDE chanells, so i kept getting the 'Waiting for root device' error.

So i changed them to be on the same channel, and in doing so, it SEVERELY ruined my boot speed.

it went from aprox 10-20 secs to cd boot, to about 4mins at the bios logo screen.

Any help with this problem ^^

After i did this, i didnt get the 'waiting for root device' error.

But then comes another problem.

I have tried to install the JaS 10.4.8 dvd twice.

It has frozen on the Disk utility formatter many times.

So, the first time i tried to install, i got to the part of the install where it said it was installing the semthex kernal and told me to do some things after install.

but then it froze :hysterical:

So, i tried again, this time it froze at the installing essentials bit.

Why is my installer freezing? is it normal for it to do this?

what can i do to fix this?

  • 3 weeks later...

Bump.

I also have a DFI Ultra-D. I was able to install to a IDE drive a couple of weeks ago, but now Im trying to install to a SATA. The install sees my SATA drive, but the install freezes / locks up duing the install (once at Essential, another at the part after that).

Anyone have any suggestions? I am using the same DVD I installed from before.

You could try connecting your drives on separate IDE channels but making sure the pins are correctly set to MASTER on BOTH devices. Also, setting the devices manually (that includes speeds) instead of auto in the BIOS seems to help.

I am trying to install to a SATA drive. SATA drives do not have jumpers for MASTER/SLAVE, correct? It looks like it does have jumpers for other settings per this document. Ive never had to mess with the jumpers on SATA drives before. http://www.wdc.com/en/library/eide/2579-001037.pdf

Any suggestions?
