With my recently bought acer aspire laptop came windows MCE 2005. The problem is if you install it using the acer dvd it needs to be on the first partition and it will format that partition to fat32. I want it on my second partition, after osX and I want NTFS...

So I downloaded the MCE 2005 install CDs. The problem is that they don't accept my product key.. So I ended up using some key I found on the net.

But now I have to activate windows and I'd like to use my key to be able to activate and to do updates without messing around.

Is there a way to make it work with my legal key?

your key is only good for that dvd. you can download another "version" of mce off the internet and expect it to work..

you may try calling microsoft activation and tell them that your activation key is not being accepted. when they give you the activation code. you'll be activated, but reboot.. you may be asked for activation again..

in that case, your best bet is to crack xp yourself- i was in a similar situation with my hp mce..

Ok here is the deal:

1. Install XP MCE 2005 (using Acer DVD) on your first partition. Let it do the partition in fat32 (make sure you partitioned the disk first into two partitions. Then convert the winxp fat32 to ntfs.Read this GUIDE.

2. Install OSX on second partition and you are done.

3. Just install any boot manager to choose the OS you want to run.

HTH

Edit: It is far more easier to install XP first and then OSX.

well I did that before and it made my system boot very slow and allso it disabled mij antivirus (avast) somehow so that I coldn't use it anymore and I couldn't uninstall or reinstal itl; but I guess I'd better converted before putting any software on it... Anyway I'll try to convert it again sometime this week..

Your missing something. You may (very doubtful) be limited to the first partition, but I don't think you are limited to fat32. Nobody has used fat32 sense windows me. I understand the frustration about the fat32, but it doesn't matter if windows is before os x. Just do a double check to make sure you are not missing anything.

I'm very sure there is no choice. This dvd is written by my computer just after first install and it contains all the drivers and stuff... The only thing you can do with it is boot it and press start. If your first drive is not c: it will say something like "c: drive not found" if it is, this dvd will install everything without giving you any choice.. I think It's a rather noobie solution from acer, but I don't seem to have another choice...
