munky
A workaround for the Mac version if it crashes on 'browse for ppf'. Simply find your ppf file in Finder, and right-click, Open With... PPF-O-Matic. Then you can browse in the PPF-O-Matic program for the image file.

coolied
what causes this, anyways? Bug in the program, or bug in the Rosetta translation from PPC to x86? (and out of curiosity, does it happen on real Intel Mac hardware as well?) - Also, thanks for the tip, munky. I was going nuts trying to apply the PPF for .com.apple.boot.plist DVD boot problems (so I don't need to install from USB DVD drive next time); your hint saved the night.
