I was just about to start the same topic, but I guess you beat me to it.

I have the same problem. I'm not sure how to make my video card work like it did with 10.4.5. I have a 22" display with 1680x1050 resolution. With 10.4.5, I used Callisto and it worked better than I hoped, all the resolutions worked and QE/CI were supported. Now that I have 10.4.8 I don't know what I should use. I can't get Callisto to work. Here in the Wiki, someone got their 9600 and 9800 working with all resolutions and QE/CI supported. If someone can share info on how to get it done, it will be greatly appreciated. :)

P.S. ipguy: If you just want the QE/CI to work and you don't care about changing resolutions, just add your card's ID to the ATIRadeon9700.kext info.plist and restart.

sure but then i get mouse tearing... i was hoping to avoid that with the 8.8.1 kernel and some other way to support my card.

Im having trouble getting QE and CI to work on my AGP 9550 (recognised as 9600 pro), but i do know how to change resolutions.

If you just want to use a certain resolution, add it to the boot.plist

It is found in "Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration"

Drag the file to your desktop and make the following changes, then save and drag back to the systemconfiguration folder, then autheticate and replace.

For example, if you want to use 1280x1024

after the lines:

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>10</string>

add:

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280x1024x32</string>

32 being the depth

Hope this helps.

Guys buy a cheap second hand, qe compatibe card instead being frustated. Its not worth the hassle. Evrything is so much better with a good card.

here in lie my problem.

my motherboard only has PCI and AGP slots (no PCI-e or PCI-x)

i don't think there is a compatible AGP or PCI card that will work with QE/CI

i though Titan with an 8.8.1 kernel was supposed to allow QE/CI for ATI cards (without mouse tearing)

I'm in the same predicament, I have an ATI 9550 and only PCI and AGP slots are avilable on my motherboard (SSE2 processor). I have the new JaS DVD for 10.4.8, but haven't installed yet due to fear of incompatibility. So I'm running 10.4.6 with psygon's 9550 installer; it runs great except for the mouse tearing. The work around programs "mighty mouse" and "mouse locator" are alright, but still aren't perfect.

Anyway, I too would be appreciative of any info on accomplishing this.

hm why do i have a fully working agp here then? Almost all the 6600gt cards i see worked with ci/qe , the agp ones and pci ones.

...when i try to use Titan it keep hanging at "loginwindow.app"

i can see that my card is detected but just hangs at "loginwindow.app"

Just so you know, there's no solution for the problem with artifacts on radeon 7xxx-9xxx... other than buying an x1000-series graphicscard or some newer nvidia-card. The reason why we get artifacts is pretty obvious, the ati framebuffer-driver doesn't work with non x1000-series cards and the opengl/quartz-part of the driver renders artifacts without the ordinary ati framebuffer-driver. So no matter if we run with or without callisto framebuffer-driver, we will always get artifacts with these older ati graphicscards.
