I'd really can follow the Bofor's configuration, but at my country Intel D975XBXKR2 is very expensive, around US$ 558,00, then i'd like find other options for build thats machine. sg
well, i guess it is more than really good, here it goes around £150...sg: does the sli works? i havent used SLI, but the board supports ATI SLI (it has 2x PCIe x16 slots). also nvidia SLI will work if you modify your drivers (seems nvidia is blocking SLI on chipsets they dont want in the driver). this is all for windows anyways, i dont think SLI works at all in OSX at the moment. if you're looking for a cheaper board that is new, you should look at a 965 chipset board, however you might have to do a bit more work to install it since ICH8 is a bit too new. Hiro_
Okay, SG here thats D965 are cheap same, i go research if the work will be hard with they, but i'm considering 975XBX also, your price is very expensive, but if works perfectly with OS X, maybe it would be a good choice, but still i've doubt if 975 works fine with Jas 10.4.8 install DVD and with a possible 10.5 (Leopard) in the future. mifki
I have the D975XBX and it works perfect with, go for a 965 based board as well (apparentely the new imacs will use this chipset) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37075-building-a-new-machine/#findComment-264307 Share on other sites
sg
I have the D975XBX and it works perfect with, go for a 965 based board as well (apparentely the new imacs will use this chipset) you've been saying that for a while :x the only issues with the 965 chipset that i see is that you cant boot off an IDE cdrom to do the install. you'd have to boot off an external USB cdrom/dvdrom and install it, and make sure you install the ICH8 drivers. the ICH8 performance looks pretty good too, about on par with ICH7. another good board you can look into is the P5B-E (i think, its 965) from asus (i think there's a guide for installing it at the genius section). if i was going to build myself a new system today i would probably save some money and get an 965 board, at the time of my purchase, 965 had just started to come out and there wasnt any support really for ICH8 or people that knew how to get it to work.
