Miaplacidus
People are reporting that SATA on nForce 4 does not work.
macgirl
People are reporting that SATA on nForce 4 does not work. Is not just a report, if you read the source code of the AppleOnboardPCATA you only see nForce 1, 2 and 3 PATA included, SATA is only on Intel ICHs and VIA kexts. Even if you want support for nForce 4 PATA with DMA you need to modify the kext for it.
twoodcc
so it won't work? i know i can't modify the kext for it. does anyone know if anyone is working on this? it seems that an amd X2 would work nice with OSx86
twoodcc
also, would it help if i unplug 1 of my harddrives?
macgirl
It work in a compatible (intel PXII) mode, but without DMA, but does not work on SATA drives, only PATA. It does not have problems with concurrent drives connected.
twoodcc
well i don't think my mobo has support for PATA (i think). if that's the case, it can't work? well nevermind, i think i do have PATA support. but even with that, do you think it would work? macgirl
nForce 3 and 4 had no problems at all.
twoodcc
well i guess it's worth a shot. will it even see the SATA harddrives after i'm up and running?
twoodcc
well i still can't get it to work. i'm looking at the screen right now though. it seems it might be a usb thing. but the only usb devices i have plugged in is a mouse and apple keyboard. that wouldn't be it, would it? twoodcc
well i unplugged the mouse, and still same error. usbf: 44.330 appleusbehci[oxc2071000]: not able to take ownership of EHCI controller then there's other usb errors then it trys to debug, and says no debugger device, and then it just sits there do you think it's a usb controller for the front of the case? i have 2 usb ports on the front of the case, should i unplug them? twoodcc
i'm also getting this error: SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, ASC = 0x11, ASCQ = 0x00 i get 5 of those errors in a row
twoodcc
it also said network error, and then it "panicked" should i unplug my ethernet cable?
macgirl
Try disable USB in BIOS, of course put PS/2 Keyb and mouse. The other error is not very important.
twoodcc
ok, i'll try it
The Lotharian
I'm using an Apple USB keyboard on an X2 as well. I managed to disconnect it, wait until it boots (spinner starts), and then jack it back in and it worked. You might want to give it a try.
twoodcc
so you got it to work on an X2? i disabled the usb in the bios, but i'm still getting this error: SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, ASC = 0x11, ASCQ = 0x00 i get that error 5 times in a row. i also get : nfs_boot_init failed with 6 then it 'panicks'
twoodcc
well i downloaded an already patched dvd and burnt to a disk, and it seems to be working. it's installing now, i'll post back with results
twoodcc
well i got it installed, but it seems extremely slow. my processor has SSE3, so i choose that when i installed it. should i have? what can i do to speed it up? and it doesn't see my ethernet either
macgirl
Remove AppleTPMACPI.kext if you have it. Also look for recompiled IOATAFamily kext to have UltraDMA on nForce
twoodcc
i've already removed AppleTPMACPI.kext and it didn't seem to do anything. it's running to slow to use. should i have installed the SSE3?
guitarist
How the install going, given up already? Not having SATA hurts when you already have them.
