Flickering Screen

Hello,

After a recent update to macOS Tahoe, I sometimes get two types of screen flickering:

The first is the same as described in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/138cxja/cant_figure_this_problem_out_ventura_screen/. This occurs when doing the same things described in the post.

The second is similar to the flickering when installing macOS off of a USB for the first time (except with graphics acceleration). This only occurs occasionally from boot to boot (although, it's been occurring a lot more recently).

Device Specs:

CPU: 1.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

GPU: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB

RAM: 16 GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X

Laptop: Microsoft Surface Pro 7

Wifi/BT Card: Intel Wifi & Intel Bluetooth

Touchpad/Keyboard: Microsoft Surface Pro Keyboard

Let answer this according to what fix that issue for me...the issue is the RAM...you have a bad ram..so what you need to do is remove all rams..and starts adding them one by one...till you find the bad one..All the best. That's what fixed the same issue for me.

Sure, but like i said on the comment..i had the same issues...but removing that ram solved the issue..still have the ram...tested it on two different hackintosh with that ram...screen will flicker on both machine..so their is no harm of him  trying to do that.

As I have a laptop, I would rather not take it apart (especially a Microsoft Surface) to remove the RAM.

I only ever see the first flickering type (monitor blackout) on an external display and the second (screen tear-like) on the built-in display. However, whenever the second flickering type occurs, it forces the first flickering type to occur as well. The opposite (first type causes second type) is not true.

I would consider this something to do with macOS rather than a hardware issue because it didn't happen before in Sequoia with the same setup nor does it happen in other operating systems (Windows, Linux).

 

I would also like to add that for me some translucent objects (the Terminal app background especially) on an external monitor have some weird graphical glitches that don't occur on the built-in monitor (I have attached a video that showcases it in Terminal).

Do you have a similar symptom on Windows side as well? And, I don't think removing your soldered lpddr4 RAM would be a simple task.

I can't replicate it on Windows or Linux. My thoughts exactly.

@Tech5G5G, now there is more information and understanding of what can be improved. Now it is obvious that the flickering problem is related to incorrect configuration of the OpenCore bootloader, or more precisely, the DeviceProperties ---> Add config section.

 

If I understand correctly, in your Microsoft Surface Pro 7 with the Intel Core i7-1065G7 (Ice Lake, 10th gen, 1.5 GHz Quad-Core), the integrated GPU is Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7.

This generation of Iris Plus is supported in macOS starting with Catalina 10.15, and it works best on Big Sur 11 and newer.

 

Show us your config and let's see what we can improve.

EDIT: I merged your config with mine, but it resulted in my screen going black after the Apple logo.

Did you fix the problem with translucent glitches?

 

I'm having this problem around all the UI since I updated to Tahoe, working fine in Sequoia.
