Hi everybody ... i have an AMD 64 3400, 512 PC3200 and the Integrated ATi Express 200 ... and all the usual stuff. When i put the Generic mac osx86 dvd install in the drive and boot it takes around 10 minutes to boot into the installer, and then i can;t do anything, i can't select anything, i can't move the mouse, etc ... i already tried booting with -x, -v, and -v -x platform=x86pc ... so i was wondering if maybe there was a problem with amd 64s or if i'm doing something right ... i've tried the dvd in another computer and it installs and boots without any problems.

Thanks you all

I have an AMD64 3000 (Venice) with an MSI K8N Neo2 Platium Mobo, with 1gb ram, maxtor 200gb hdd, nvidia 6800gt, sb audigy and it installed v10.4.1 without any problems. It does take a while to check dvd but the wait is worth it.

Only problems I have is no wireless networking yet (DWL-G122), downloaded the drivers but ain't sussed how to install as when click on them they disappear.

Also no sound, and not sure if need to install any nvidia drivers for gfx but seems fast enough in desktop

regards

walkerx

Try using platform=ADP2,1, I had the same problems as you with it being terribly slow, but this cleared it up, the only problem I have now is no sound and no DMA.

let me try that !!! my problem is as i said before that it takes like 10 minutes to boot, and once in the installer i can't do anything ... to be more specific, here are my system specifications:

AMD Athlon™ 64 3400+ , Chipset ATI RS482, Maxtor 200 Gb, and video is an integrated ATI Radeon® Xpress 200 .. it's an eMachine ... model T6412.

Thanks a lot guys !

The K8N Neo2 uses the Nvidia nForce3 Ultra chipset. Completely different from the ATi Express 200.

If the 3400+ is based on the older Clawhammer core, you will need the patch for SSE2 support. As for the ATi Express 200, I don't have enough experience with the chipset to know its problems. x86 was only guaranteed to work with Intel ICHx southbridges anyways.

first thing, i'm stupid !!! the mouse and keyboard i was using are the default P/S2 which won't work with osx86 so i tried an usb mouse and it worked, just that it's pretty slow ... like if was using pearpc ... any ideas so far ?

Using an SSE2 based processor will give you quite the performance hit compared to using an Intel Prescott P4 or Celeron D that have SSE3 enabled. The only Athon 64's that have SSE3 are based on Venice, San Diego, and the X2 models.

but i checked my amd 64 with the sisoft sandra software and i says it has SS3 ... but it's still slow, i guess because of the drivers ... or the chipset maybe. Intel is the most widely supported for what i see.

It has nothing to do with the chipset and I don't see how a 754 Athlon 64 can have SSE3. The new Sempron 64-bit Palermos have SSE3, but not an older Newcastle 754. Another performance hit is not having DMA being enabled on the ATi SB400 southbridge.

my work PC has the same chipset, and I had the exact same problem. just wipe out the harddrive first, then install... having FAT or NTFS partitions on the HDD seems to cause problems.
