If you're going to be doing any gaming at all, you'll want a new DX10 card.

AFAIK the only one out right now is the GeForce 8800 series and they're quite expensive right now.

I'd wait at least another month before making the plunge.

And to answer your question, 256mb should do you, but if you plan on gaming in Vista, personally I'd grab a 512.

Hope this helps? :)

I don't really like GeForce or nVidia. But I recommend the ATI Radeon x1950. I'm getting a x1600 which has 512MB but the x1950 is better and I think has Crossfire or something.

I dont care about ati or nvidia either and currently I have a x1600 pro that has 512mb and I am fine on Vista

but yes the X1950 PRO is here to kick everyone's ass AGP, PCIE :(

I'm shooting for that in a few months

I agree with you that the x1950 pro is a nice card for the money. However I have not gotten it to support Quartz Extreme and Core Image. Editing the ATIRadeonX1000.kext results in a kernel panic.

With the help of Natit edited the card is recognized and the right ATINDRV.kext plugin Alopias is loaded. This makes resolution change possible. For QE and CI however the ATIRadeonX1000.kext needs to be loaded.
