HI all,

Im very interested in the Mac on a PC deal, I love to play around with anything different. Anyway, I really dont want to download this OS, for two reasons, Frist I dont want to get caught over a $50 peice of software, and secondly it takes to long anyways. So with that said. What do I need to purchase? I have seen the Tiger OS on ebay for around $25-50 bucks. What vesion do I need? Also Iv seen some stuff about the Intel version I think its 10.4.8? on ebay it says you need a intel chip. Is this what I need?

Here is my PC specs. Intel 3.0 P4

Msi 865Pe Neo 2 Mother board

Apg Geforece 6800Gt Card

ide hard drive

Does anyone see any real problems with this?

Also any websites links that would help in installing, and listing hardware would greatly help.

thanks for your time, and support

Daryl

There is no legal Apple Intel OSX DVD being sold by Apple, yet. Only can get restore DVD's with a computer purchase.

Apple DVD will not install on a PC without major patches, some of which are only on other patched install DVD's.

This website is the primary resource for installing OSX on a PC.

Installing OSX from a retail disk to a normal PC requires more than extensiv knowledge of components. It is possible but learning the procedure and the prepairs needed are hell so that close to nobody would do. I use to install my system without prepaired install disks, but I think even explaination woudl take 1000+ words how to do so. :)

Agreed

No disagreement with either of you. However, having said that, I wonder how close the install process described in the semthex FAQ or the one by paulicat would come to installing from a retail 10.4.8 DVD?

My current system - installed using the semthex FAQ - is running very well, but I think I would like to try one from the retail DVD just for the experience. :D

Agreed

Well I disagree (the part of knowledge of components I mean, even I did it, of course with the patched files), Is not that difficult but a tedious task since it involves emulation software (AKA PearPC sometimes is painfully slow) and Darwin Instalation (a lot of text based commands).

We were talking about making a install iso , Hybrid image from scratch.not just the part of adding pkgs to the an alredy bios bootabe install dvd.

LOL, well I guess my question didnt fit so well, lol

I know that hacking Apple Os is not legal, but installing something on my pc at home is alot safer then downloading it ?

Anyways, thanks for clearing that up for me, I was about ready to buy one of those OS on ebay.

How would you rate the Os against Linux?

thanks

Daryl

i dont think if its alot safer to patch indoor

cuz to patch your legal copy of OS you'll need patched files that you will download (unless you are a genius and can make your own system files)

so its the pretty same of the case

I personally think OS is way too better than Linux

but again you got other distribution like Red Hat (which is not free anymore) that are very good

If I were given a chance , I would go for PearPC then OSX.

For OSX86 installation you need to know

*Basic I/O , how usb works , how cpu takes info , how it processes

* Basic *nix knowledge - rm , mv , cp and stuff like that

*Basic Troubleshooting
