silencer51
I've been hackintoshing for quite a few years now, both desktops and laptops, but this one has me stumped. I went with the Z490 platform for this latest build due to it being tried and tested, but I just can't get macOS installed on this board. I tried following a regularly updated github repo + guide, even using to the exact same BIOS version on the mobo, to no avail. And I think the issue has something to do with the dreaded UHD630 graphics. I can boot the installer just fine, with or without acceleration. Initially, without acceleration, spoofing a non existent (12345678) platform-id, I could proceed with the install yet I lost video signal a few minutes in. With GPU acceleration on, via proper framebuffer patching, I got acceleration working in the installer, yet a few minutes in, my screen, connected via HDMI, just displated fullscreen green. Tinkering with the framebuffer settings, as well as forcing all display outputs to always stay online, I managed to go a bit further. And that's where I hit a brick wall. No matter what I do, the installer always hard reboots at 18 minutes remaining, during the first phase of the setup (i.e. a few minutes after starting macOS installation). I'm at a point right now, with the platform being so popular and with many success stories with this mobo, that I'm seriously considering that I have a problematic macOS 12.3.1 image on my flash drive (it was freshly downloaded yesterday from Apple, using the popular macadmin script). Are there logs kept for this part of the installation? If so, where? Thanks in advance for all the tips! silencer51
After about 6 hours of troubleshooting, as it turns out, its the motherboard: apparently, Asus' Strix Z490 boards, especially the itx models, simply don't play well with 32gb dimms and both slots populated... go figure. With only one stick in the board, macOS installed just fine. Note: memtest gave both sticks a pass. From what I can tell, its a known hardware issue that was fixed in a second revision of the board. Sigh. Allan
The .2601 bios version didn't helped?
