mickoes
Hi, I'm reporting this Motherboard as "Impossible to get native working". I just wanted to know if other user were able to get that motherboard working. Even if I try a ghosted install, it doesn't work. DVD won't work as well.. You'll get a Still waiting for root device in both situation. -- Motherboard : p4s800 Chipset : SiS648FX -- Help needed. The only way I can get OSX working is in VMware. bubugugu
I'm having exactly the same mobo and the same problem as yours. I've been posting asking for solutions and did many searches on the forums, I believe the problem is that osx86 not being able to recognize the SiS IDE controller, as a result of this still waiting for root device error. I have also tried manually adding the device ID onto different kexts, so far no luck. my device id is 55131039 There have been success cases reported by some SiS mobo owners manually adding the device id into a VIA SATA kext, and they get UDMA for SATA. However my mobo doesn't even have SATA, thus adding the id into a SATA kext obviously won't work. I believe at the moment it is not possible to natively boot osx86 with that crappy mobo, what you can do tho, is to buy a mobo with preferably an Intel chipset. The problem is that OSX doesn't recognize the hard drive. The strange part about that is that when I tryied the ghosted image, I was able to boot and everything was loading fine but I had the error at the exact same place than the DVD, after the usb wake event across sleep or wathever. I'm begining to think that the problem do not come from our chipset, it come from OSX. If our hard drive wouldn't exist for OSX then why can I boot? By the way, P4S800 has no SATA and no RAID (for other ppl who are trying to figure out a solution) and NO USB BOOT! cpuguy06
I have the same board and the same problem. If I don't boot with any flags I get the grey no smoking sign. Won't even install. It is not the hard drive that not gets recognzied - I bought this Asrock P4i65G for about $60USD, it has a Intel 865G chipset, and I used the same old PATA hard drive which has OSX previously installed (vmware method), it boots fine, and almost every hardware gets recognized. I checked out your screenshot, at the line where you're stuck at, normally an ATA/SATA kext will be loaded. None were loaded for your mobo because OSX doesn't recognize/support SiS chipsets. I used to have a SiS mobo and the above was my observation, but I could still be wrong tho. my boot screen of my old Asus P4s800-mx (SiS648FX) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=5090 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34999-p4s800/#findComment-249090 Share on other sites

I mean, why not ripping the ATA/Chipset drivers from BSD and add it to OSX? There is development on creating a driver for SiS based motherboards (like the one you mention.)
