stooovie
I let the Monterey upgrade run (from the Software Update control panel). It runs the whole course, gives no errors or warnings... and then boots back into Big Sur (it is not a boot drive confusion). Here's the log. I had zero issues upgrading from Catalina to Big Sur on this system (10850k, RX 580, Asus Prime Z490-P, 64GB RAM). Any clues? My kexts: LILU, VirtualSMC, AppleALC, EnergyDriver (Intel Power gadget), Realtek RTL8111, SMCProcessor, SMCSuperIO, CPUFriend, custom USBMap, CPUFriendDataProvider, Whatevergreen, DroboTBT (had issues with Drobo until I put the kext right into EFI), TrustedDataSCSIProvider (same), HibernationFixup, NVMeFix, all fully updated EDIT: tried once more, same thing Edited November 17, 2021 by stooovie Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/349645-monterey-install-finishes-goes-back-to-big-sur/ Share on other sites

If you do not see this volume then it is not being created which is strange as to why. That's weird because Opencore should do this automatically - it always did for me (on upgrades as well as smaller updates). There should be n<o reason to do anything manually. I'll try, thanks! stooovie
No "install" drive to select. But the usual "about X minutes remaining" text IS running and it does take roughly the time it should. It just returns to BS after it finishes... 🤷♂️ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/349645-monterey-install-finishes-goes-back-to-big-sur/#findComment-2772057 Share on other sites
stooovie
Here's the efi (exceeds 10MB limit as there's Apple new firmware as well - probably it has something to do with this issue?) I don't have any system issues at all (multidisplay, sleep, Wifi/BT, Continuity, Messages, CPU and GPU power management), dualboot with Windows via OC menu, it all works fine. It just doesn't upgrade to Monterey I added the signature, good call. Thanks! stooovie
There's "Enable discrete TPM" and "Enable firmware TPM" options and I can also disable the whole Trusted computing stack elsewhere (talk about confusing BIO setup UI...). I know I had to switch the firmware/discrete TMP option to get W11 (since removed) but I don't remember what it was or if I switched it back. I'll try this avenue, let's see. BS does boot with it completely disabled. stooovie
Nope, no dice, even with TPM disabled. And as a neat bonus, USB stopped working 😂 but that was fixed by just replugging the USB hub. Let's see if I can even install 11.6.1. stooovie
Thank you but wait, what? It's all updated, manually copied from Acidanthera github, validated by the latest ocvalidate tool and snapshotted by Propertree 😮 That's incredibly weird. I'll try with your EFI. I have a backup Thank you again! miliuco
@stooovie Main error in your EFI I think is the drivers section, it's obsolete, @eSaF has fixed this. You can remove the EFI/tools folder, you only need /EFI/OC/Tools folder. stooovie
Thank you guys, the upgrade finally went through and I'm on Monterey now. Sleep, Continuity, BT, everything works so far. It was my {censored}ed up EFI. I probably really failed to copy my updated 075 EFI back from my "update usb stick" to the boot drive. I always do it by hand and check with current ocvalidate. I'm wondering that it even boots and works flawlessly (except the upgrade thing) with so many errors! I couldn't have fixed this by myself as it wouldn't occur to me I could {censored} it up this bad, this is not my first Hackintosh rodeo But I did. Thanks! Re: proper-tree: everyone on r/Hackintosh urged me to only ever use this for editing the config.plist. I have always used PlistEdit Pro but propertree did fix some plist issues I had with things new in 0.7.5. What's the best way these days? I {censored}ed up this one time but other than that I know what I'm doing, my first OC install booted at first try with almost everything working.
