I'm a newbie in all this, so please be mercifull :) Also forgive me for my mistakes if you'll find some, I'm trying to speak with all my best english capabilities :D

I have installed 10.4.6 Jas DVD. After installation I have to boot from windows boot CD, run fdisk and make my XP partition Active. After that (I already have "chain0" file with edited config.sys on my XP partition for Mac os boot) I reboot and select "Mac Os X86". After that I have a selection of boots, but now its from Darwin, not from Windows. I have all my partitions there, even if no Os installed there. And that's what I want BACK!! Haa, cause after I've installed 10.4.7 Jas intell sse3 update, I don't have it anymore!!! Os X starts automaticly with no chanse to select smth, and the second funny thing is that when I do my XP partition active with fdisk, and select Mac Os from there, it stupidly brings back that selection screen again, and again. I'm NOT able to boot Mac Os anymore! The only way is to fdisk it's partition back to active, and boot one way only! Another sad story is that I am not able to boot in -s mode and all that.

Please explain my how to repair this, and Mac Os X boot basics also!

Would be very appreciate!

Make the OSX partition active and boot into OSX.

Setting the timeout parameter will force the Darwin (OSX) bootloader to appear so that you can choose OSX or Windows to boot.

Edit the boot.plist file at "/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist" and add the following:

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>10</string>

You can edit the file by dragging it to the Desktop and editing it with TextEdit, then dragging it back, answering the 2 resulting dialogs - Authenticate and yes to replace, then followed by using Disk Utility to repair permissions on the OSX partition.

Or you can do it via Terminal with this command:

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

With Timeout enabled, you should see the OS selection menu when you boot. At the bottom of the menu window will be a prompt labelled "boot:". To enter single-user mode (-s), type: -s

at the prompt. (Or -v for verbose mode gives error messages on boot, or -x is for safe-mode for troubleshooting).

Same thing with my USB mouse though, I can use it when booting through VMware, but when it's native, I have to resort to my PS/2 mouse.

Also, how do I install some of the driver's listed in the Wiki? I don't know where to put the .kext files for my audio and GFX card.

I have the EXACT same problem here.

Set it active, blessed it manually.

I have to insert the dvd and set the mac os x drive as my boot (primary) hdd before I can do antyhing.

I suggest we merge my thread and this, please.

I've noticed some weird USB activity. When I'm in OSX (10.4.6) and I restart my system, my USB ports will work fine but if I shutdown and then power on again, I have no power to the USB ports until OSX starts booting up. If I shutdown from OSX, I pull out the AC plug, press power a couple of times to discharge any power in the system and reconnect the AC plug and the USB will work.

On another note, most motherboards will let you access the BIOS with a USB keyboard even if USB is disabled within the BIOS. You just can't continue to use your USB keyboard from there on. Just enable your USB support in the BIOS and you shouldn't have any problems.

You said:

my question is though, does this go at the very end of the text document (using text edit) or does it go before teh </plist> marker??

cause I added what you said to teh very end, and i get no option to press F8 or any of that.
