ryouitou
I recently installed macOS Catalina Public Beta 4(19A512f) onto Kinston HyperFuryX 120GB SSD, a few days later I decided to upgrade to a 512GB SSD. Here is the problem, can I clone it? It has two partitions, and basically they are same. I don't know what to do, use specific Terminal command or just reinstall? any advice? Thanks a lot. Matgen84
There is Carbon Copy Cloner. But it's a beta as usual before macOS Release. HenryV
This might help if CCC beta does not: https://www.belightsoft.com/products/resources/apfs-bootable-clone-with-command-line Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/339898-does-anyone-know-a-way-to-clone-catalina-system-to-another-ssd/#findComment-2689652 Share on other sites
MrMinimizer
Try backing up your Catalina System to a TimeMachine backup drive, then boot to restore, select restore from time machine backup. Make sure you copy your original Catalina EFI folder to the new drive EFI folder. It will work! 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/339898-does-anyone-know-a-way-to-clone-catalina-system-to-another-ssd/#findComment-2691617 Share on other sites

Micheldiz
I use "Paragon Hard Disk Manager" and it is perfect. Works with APFS (And you can do it from Windows). I've used to make a safe "snapshot" before doing any upgrade or testing. Also, I have a NAS with timemachine on, just in case. I just upgraded a MBP SSD using a TimeMachine back up. 1-I booted with ext TimeMachine HD connected and new SSD installed (with NO OS!), 2-Once restarted i used disk tools to format the new SSD as APFS 3-I then restored from the TimeMachine back to th new SSD. 4-After this was asked to log into the iCloud account. Done deal I have no idea what all this EFI stuff is, i can't even find it or any option., sounds like BETA. --> Superduper gave me errors --> Carbon Copy Cloner said beta (too slow anyways) Just use TimeMachine! thefiredragon
Or use clonezilla it's free and works nice for all hard drives. You can boot from clonezilla clone to external or internal drives if you have some experiance with linux it's easy.
