nylock10
Go into Applications, right-click Safari then click "Get Info". Then click "Open using Rosetta". It will be a bit slower, but it will not crash.
TopazBar
Strange, I have similar setup but safari never crashes on me (well, except for once - divide by zero error, I think it was). Try running with plug-in disabled. If this fixes your problem, you know where fault lies.

ultravista
I am running 10.4.8 on an SSE2 machine with all the current updates including the recently available security patches and JRE. Safari is acting really odd. Many of the pages don't display properly although the application doesn't crash. It really is unusable at this point. It looks like it is having issues with stylesheets and layout. Google for example, all the search results are jumbled on one line. Hundreds of characters lumped together. Cannot be read.
