AGP on ASROCK 939 Dual SATA?

11 posts in this topic

I am running 10.4.8 with the 8.8.1 kernel from the "MacOSX_10.4.8DVD AMD SSE3 TEST 1" ISO.

My hardware: ASROCK 939 Dual SATA2 with AMD X2 3800 and an EVGA Nvidia 7800GS AGP card installed.

After default install, I get QE and CI enabled but no AGP. The card is shown as PCI in the system profiler. My Xbench scores are pretty bad, so I think it is hurting on bandwidth.

Has anyone gotten AGP working on this board? AGPGart 2 appears to be installed but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Titan sees the card and supports it.

Any advice?

I discovered this by accident while working on the no AGP problem.

With Xbench running in the foreground I get this:

Results 35.41

System Info

Xbench Version 1.3

System Version 10.4.8 (8L2127)

Physical RAM 1024 MB

Model ACPI

Drive Type ST3300622AS

Quartz Graphics Test 29.40

Line 36.05 2.40 Klines/sec [50% alpha]

Rectangle 14.58 4.35 Krects/sec [50% alpha]

Circle 22.17 1.81 Kcircles/sec [50% alpha]

Bezier 71.02 1.79 Kbeziers/sec [50% alpha]

OpenGL Graphics Test 61.54

Spinning Squares 61.54 78.07 frames/sec

User Interface Test 29.02

Elements 29.02 133.17 refresh/sec

With it running in the background (with Safari open on top of it) I get this:

Results 90.95

System Info

Xbench Version 1.3

It is running almost 3 times as fast when it doesn't have the foreground focus. Does that strike anyone else as wierd?

Also, I tried adding the line "<string>pci10B9,5246</string>" into the Info.plist in AGPGart with no effect. I got the numbers for that from the ULI AGP entry in Windows under the device manager. Is there somewhere else I should look for the numbers to go there, or is this not even used anymore?

Thanks!

quixcube, we share the same problem.

I know that Joblo (AGPGart developer) has recently added support to Asrock Dual sata 939.

Please try the latest version of AGPGart 2.1u2 from Joblo, and shere with your results

Yes thanks for saying it,

come to that forum and tell if it works or not please, that's the only way to get it working.... thanks

Thanks for following up on this.

I downloaded 2.1 from the link in the first post at http://x86dev.org/forums/index.php?topic=23.0 and it still isn't working. How can I verify it is 2.1u?

With it, I get the following message:

Nov 24 14:51:56 localhost kernel[0]: AGP: Did not find AGP Bridge

I don't know what will be most useful, so I am going to paste in more than necessary probably. Sorry! (BTW, the ethernet driver it loads is not the onboard one. It is an add-in.) Please let me know what I can do to help out with the testing. I would love to help get this working.

Here is what I get in more detail:

Few hours ago I've reinstalled my osx (10.4.3) for testing purposes

next step was to install AGPGart u2 (kext copied to Extensins folder + repaired permissions and cleaned cache)

I have the same message:

Nov 25 02:20:17 localhost kernel[0]: AGP: Did not find AGP Bridge

(see added system log)

It looks like we are not there yet. :(
