R9 290X or HD6850 do not "just work" with High Sierra

Read endless posts about how ATI cards work OOB with Sierra with little to no tweaks. I've tried 2 ATI cards without tweaks and with some tweaks and with a million tweaks/patches. I cannot get either to work. Tried Lilu/WhateverGreen. Tried manual kext patching. Ripping my hair out over here. Using HDMI connection.

To clarify - the system boots and I get into macOS but I'm stuck with no hardware acceleration, no resolution options in system prefs, incomplete info about GPU in system info.

There is a post (dont remember if here or elsewhere) that says you need the RadeonDeInit (or something like that) kext to get them to work.

RadeonDeInit is not required if you are using Lilu+WhateverGreen.

Not sure about the HD6850, but I know for a matter of fact the R9 290X works in High Sierra and even Mojave. Tell us what your system specs are and upload your entire EFI folder. I will take a look and see if I see anything that doesn't look right.

So WEG and Lilu has taken place of pretty much everything? Should have my R7 350x low profile card this afternoon, so once I get past my AppleACPICPU issue and install the card I should be good to go as long as I have WEG+Lilu installed?

That depends, that’s why I asked for you to upload your entire EFI folder.

Ok cool.... well if I can figure out how to get around this error and boot back to my desktop then I should be able to get the folder. Otherwise it is going to be another night of reformatting and re-installation of everything (probably my 7th time as I have jacked with things enough where I just did a clean install to figure out what I had done wrong).

However, now that I am doing some more reading it seems as the R7 350x may or may not be able to work with the system. Looks to have an Oland processor (R7 300 series) but only those (according to articles I have read) that are Cape Verde and newer work "easily". Not having much luck with this rig, keep buying things that I think are compatible only to have issues after some bigger digging.

Just tell me your system specs and I can build you a proper EFI folder.

Try this EFI on a bootable USB first, do not add/delete or edit anything. If you get instant reboot or get stuck please boot in verbose and upload a pic of the issue.

Ok tried it and didn't even recognize it as a bootable drive. Got the "insert a bootable drive or press any key to reboot" message.

Did you put it in the EFI part of the USB drive and have UEFI enabled in BIOS?

Well no dice... Got the card installed and while it will recognize it in the GPU Injector screen in clover, I cannot seem to get it to work. Clover recognizes it as a device ID of 6610 and a Radeon R7 250. Howvever, no matter what firmware I attempt to inject or anything it will not recognize more than 14mb of ram. Spent the last 3hrs messing with it on top of the fact that my case (wesena ITX4 v3 which is the US version of a Streacom FC7 minus the front ports and media slot) is just too small to fit any card other than one that is 15mm wide (which this particular R7 350x is).

The graphics is the last thing that I am battling with and so I am just going to see if I can return the card and then upgrade to something like the Fractal Design Define Nano with a normal full sized card that is OOB supported.
