Can't install 10.4.6/10.4.7 natively or via VMWare!

Hello,

I have recently added a brand new IDE hard drive my computer on the slave connector of a cable which goes to my DVD drive. Ever since then, I haven't been able to install OS X. My pc is here: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Productinformation/C...1519UK__6365040

I'm not trying to install mac os x onto this new drive though.

I'm using the MacOSX_10.4.6_GoatsecxDVD. Natively, it does boot into the install cd, but very very very slowly. When it comes to opening disk utility, it doesn't see my old hard drive, the one I want to install it onto. It does see my new drive, but it can't see any of the partitions for it. So hard drive wise, i'm apparently screwed.

Through VMWare, however it can see the drive I want to install to and it's partitions so I follow the guide in the Genius Bar (VMWare to native) but after the install, the partition hasn't really changed, so OS X doesn't boot.

How can I solve either of these problems so I can install OS X?

Thanks.

Read up a little bit. If you look through the forums, you'd know that currently the Semthex and Vitality kernels do not work in VMWare. Semthex is developing a kernel which works in VMware and on AMD systems. If you have an Intel system using the latest Semthex test kernel, you'll need to boot with the -vmware flag for it to work. If you have an AMD cpu, you don't need this boot flag because all the "extra" portions of the code (including VMware and AMD code) are automatically enabled by a CPU detection scheme.

Beeeyahh...

This isn't using the new kernels, so I know the kernel in the 10.4.6 dvd that I'm using does work in VMWare, as it uses the same kernel as in the jas 10.4.7 which i had installed in VMWare and running fine before I added the new hard drive.

I don't think I have a SATA controller. The hard drive I want to install to is Ultra-ATA. Is that SATA?

No, SATA is smaller than the IDE interface you use. Have a look at wikipedia.org to inform about ATA-controllers and interfaces.

For your problem: My only idea would be to download the JaS 10.4.6 DVD, 'cause JaS works with the most of the hardware on the market. Good Luck!
