I tried iSight on my notebook, but it wasn't recognised at all. I tried kextloading the iSight kext (which was successful), but this didn't help in getting it working.

My feeling is that this is down to the limited firewire support in the 10.4.1 build.

Incidently the iSight was picked up fine in XP (just no sound/mic support)

Oh...pity.

i bought a logitech usb headset today, it works. so i solved my input problem in this way..funny

next will be the camera. I will try DV later. if it cant work, i will buy a logitech usb cam

The isight works fine in my shuttle sb83g5 via its built in 6pin firewire port, using either OS x86 or Win XP.

I can send and receive video in ichat and the built in microphone works too. Only problem I encoutered was that the other person talking to me in ichat sounded a bit like a white noise/static sound.

Interesting. What installation have you used (br0adband/bender, maxxuss patch, SSE level etc). Also was it just a case of plug in the iSight and start using it, or did you have to do anything else?

The build I used was from the original phenix image, with a basic early maxuss patch, running SSE3. I have had it running on several other kinds of hardware too, such as both the ASRock Dual 915 motherboards (with a compatible firewire card) and an AOpen XC Cube EZ915. I used various SSE3 capable CPUs such as 2.5 & 2.6 Ghz Celeron D and a Pentium 4 running at 3.2 Ghz. Memory used was either 512mb or 1gb ram. Success in all configurations. Core Image and Quartz

I just plugged the iSight camera in (which I borrowed from my dual processor 2.0 ghz G5) and it just fired up like I would expect it to. I spoke to a friend of mine on his iMac G5 via iChat and it worked as I mentioned above. Dont know if it will work with MSN via Jabber. I haven't tried that as I was unsure if it is as capable. I can tell you it seemed to work OK chatting to someone via AIM, which is compatible with iChat, with the same white noise issue. They could hear me, but I could hear them, which is strange, as my sound card works fine for all other applications.

I posted this in another post, but thought posting here might also be a good idea:

OK...here's what's odd.

I have a hackintosh with isight hooked up. I can video chat no problem with my sister in NJ (I'm in NH) over the Internet -- full video and audio, and I must say that's it's really cool! She has a 20" iMac G5 2Ghz.

BUT...she's the only one I can successfully video chat with, having both video and audio working.

I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo and when I try to chat with my hackintosh we can both see video but get no audio, or we can both get audio but get no video.

I had someone else try to chat with my MacBook Pro and it works 100% flawless both video and audio. This other person now tried video chatting with my hackintosh, and they were able to see me and hear me, but I was only able to hear them but not see them on my hackintosh.

I know this sounds incredibly odd, but anyone else use an isight with a hackintosh and can speak to this topic?

/mdg

ive done iChatting with a isight (full video and sound) in my shuttle sb61g2v3 thru native firewire 400 (6 pin). no problems at all even with no ci/qe with a nvidia fx5700le.

BTW i was running 10.4.5 from the myz disk and 10.4.6 from a jas disk - both ran perfect.
