Hi, i am thinking about getting this case, it looks pretty good and a lot better than the q tec g5 case. Can i ask is it good and what is it like compared to the v1000 or the pc-60 case? I also like the v600 case but that is a bit expensive and the v1000 is also expensive.

Cheers Harvey

The Lian Li PC-7 Plus II looks like a great case for a hackintosh, definitely one of my top choices. My only complaint is that it is set up to hold only 3 hard drives.

NewEgg has been offering the Lian PC-7 Plus II's on sale lately too:

It appears that the "V" series uses thicker aluminum and otherwise those cases are a little more sturdy. I think the PC-60 series may also use a heavier aluminum grade (but I am not positive), however I know the PC-60's usually hold more than 3 hard drive (5 in some cases) but often use poorly vented 80mm fans instead of 120's at the front and rear of the case.

You can buy a new drive holder from lots of distributors :huh:http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l1/g1/Cases.html

Performance-PC's also sells lots of Lian Li parts, including drive cages:

and drive bay hardware from other manufacturers:

All Lian-Li cases can be totally taken apart and pieces can be changed to fit almost all needs

The price differences on their cases are directly related to size and parts which would include case thickness :)

Personally I have always thought Lian-Li cases were to open, too much room for dust and a little hard to direct air

i have a pc-60 case and have had it for 4 years... it used to work ok for my amd athlon 1200 and my p4 , 2.4ghz, but with the new intel board, pentium d 3ghz it's hotter and noisier than EVER!!

it's looks sexy, but the construction is a bit sh*te

- not silent.

- bad design especially if you want to use a zalman or the like fan.

- gets really hot inside.

- floppy plate is stick-on and falls off all the time..(not using it any longer anyways)

- harddrive mount make the whole case vibrate and makes a horrible and annoying noise..

+ looks pretty

with the intel mobo for osx (i945) u can't use thed front (extended) usb ports..

there is a case fan included that makes the pc even more noisy..

i would trade it for an antec (silent white) case any day.. (i used it for my gf's pc)

i have now put the psu on the outside of the case, to let it cool down a little.. ;-)

if you guys want specific pics lemme know......

if i had decided to go for liquid/water cooling, a passive cooled psu and harddrive silence boxes i am sure this case would have been perfect ;-)

;)

gus

EDIT: I was actually talking about the PC50, just realized. it's just a little smaller than the PC60... sorry about that..

Can you recommend any other decent Lian Li cases?

All Lian Li cases are "decent". It sounds like you might like the V600, which your UK shop carries.

The only issue with the V600 is that since the PSU goes directly above (or rather along the side off) the CPU heat sink, you are limited to lower profile coolers. The stock cooler fits and I imagine that the ThermalTake Blue Orb II and some similiar Zalman's would also work:

osxgus has made me think about getting something different but i am sure they have redesigned it a bit to make it better...

At least part of heat problem Gus describes should be solved with the PC-7 Plus II's 120mm fans which have much better vents (some of the PC-60 80mm vents, especially the rear, are absurdly small and block air flow).

i would trade it for an antec (silent white) case any day.. (i used it for my gf's pc)

I assume Gus is talking about the Antec P150 which is discussed in this thread:

Im using Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Silver... with two white Apple Stickers (the ones wich came with the ipod) at the sides, thsi case looks very cool, even for apple standards and is wonderfully silent with the pair of 120mm fans and sturdy hard aluminum front door. And there are options without the side window (wich i think is nicier :P )

Everybody who see my machine like it a lot, inclusive Mac Fanboys.

The internal space and acomodations are wondefull too.

The PC-7 is a good design in Lian-Li cases, its not ventilated as much as others and would allow for good tunneling of air. Personally I think most of their cases are just boxes, but the best aluminum boxes you can buy. If you like the looks of the PC-7 and can get it for $110 or less you will not find a better quality case anywhere :P

Well thats what i am probably going to do, i found a pc-60 for quite cheap but i can't remeber where from, i will probably get the money for it soon and then buy the pc-7.

I Have found a g4 case so i might just buy that. But then again i would have to mod it and i doesn't have a way of ejecting the cd drive without having to press a button on the keyboard or sumthing.

An aluminum CoolerMaster Stacker, that's a good case too. I am not sure if one could say it is better or worse than a PC-60. Rather it comes down to want you need and want.

Since that Stacker is sound insulated, it might be better if you prefer a silent PC.

EDIT: Actually, I think that may be not be a Stacker but rather a Praetorian: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811119029

I just recieved my pc 60, i was highly disappointed the company had sent me the plus 1 so it didn't have all the added fans, psu and cpu air ducts, the firewire, microphone and headphone ports. So now i need to find a pc 60 plus II that is the real thing in the UK.
