I've got a 2HD system, and I want to dual boot MacOSX86 and Windows XP, with windows being the main. I currently dual boot Windows XP and Fedora Core, but I'm not sure what the differences would be dual booting Mac instead of Linux. Here's my current setup:

Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz "Prescott"

Intel D865PERLK Motherboard

1GB Crucial PC3200 RAM (x2 512MB)

128MB ATI Radeon 9600XT

120GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Drive (Windows)

80GB ATA/133 7200rpm Hard Drive (for Mac)

do any of you guys see any potential problems?

thanks

If you use thw Windows XP boot loader you need only 2 steps,

copy chain0 from the Darwin CD or the DVD DevKit, it's in /usr/standalone/i386/

Then add a line to boot.ini with this:

C:\chain0="Mac OS X X86"

thanks for the response, ive got another question...

i downloaded the image for mac OSX86 but its a .dmg file. since the OS i currently have is windows which uses ISOs nero only makes ISOs. does anyone know a way i can burn this .dmg file on windows to make it work?

Hey I tried this with a single drive (E) with 3 primary partions, partition 1 windows xp, partion 2 fat32, partion 3 osx86.

I copied the chain0 file to e:\

This is my boot.ini, any suggestions?

[boot loader]

timeout=31

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

E:\chain0="Mac OS X X86"

I get the following error need file <windows root>\system32\hal.dll

I got the hall.dll error when I put the chain0 file on the wrong partition. What I thought was C: was actually the 2nd parition

I have a question...

I have a dual boot that working fine but when I chose MAC OSX darwin boot and after I need choice the second partition (hd0,2) it's possible to put the second partion at default in darwin boot?? Thank's a lot!!

P-S. Sorry for my english.... :)

this is not a problem just use a prgram called UltraISO( t can be found here http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/ and you can use the trial version) and convert the .dmg file to .iso and you are good to go...also i am doing the same Dual Boot method you are yet all i have done is enter the chain0 command yet it doesnt work(i get the option to choose yet when i hit OSX my computer goes black for a second then resets)....i read in above post i need something from darwin in a i386 folder?? if anyone could inform what this is it would be great....and goodluck with the conversion!

If your XP partion is first and chain0 is in the root of that partition it shoud be C:\chain0="Mac...", if chain0 is in the fat32 (2nd partition) it shoud be D:\chain0=...

But what I know from others is that chain0 doesn't work if the Mac OS X/Darwin partition is not the first one.
