I hope you guys can help.

I have a Macbook Pro 15" (with AMD GPU). Official thing, not a hackintosh.

My problem is that I am plugging it into an external monitor, via a thunderbolt to VGA adapter, which connects to a KVM, and then to the monitor.

Through all of that, the EDID signal is not being passed to the Mac correctly, and so I'm only offered a choice of 800x600 or 1280x1024 as a resolution. Until now, I'd been using SwitchResX to force the correct resolution, but when I try and play a game through Steam, such as CounterStrike Source, I get a message saying that an OpenGL device could not be opened.

If I run the monitor at one of the two resolutions, it does load up the game, but looks horrible. So is there an alternative to switchresx? or someway i can tell the mac the correct edid?

Thanks!

Hi,

I think you have understood. When I try and do that, I get a message telling me that:

"System extension cannot be used.

The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/DisplayMergeNub.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling or contact the product's vendor for an update"

I tried using ##### and just copying it in via the terminal, but same result.
