Jimmiegin
Hi, I have been trying to install Yosemite on my OptiPlex 755 sff following many tutorials. Some from here some from the other forums and some on youtube. I have followed a guide/tut from CPUkid and made an installer USB but I am getting the message unsupported platform reason f4208ca9 and so far my search results tell me it is an issue with my smbios. Due to the fact that there is far to many ideas and methods to fix this and everyone seems to have different ways of saying and doing stuff there is far to much info for me to find a clear way to do this. I have chameleon wizard and I can ether create a new SMBios or use the one from my working Lion 10.7.2 but will that work? Anything I have missed or not mentioned that I need to do? Like do I create an Extra folder on my installer USB? Also should I install FakeSMC.kext to s/l/e or to Extra (if I create one). Thanks for reading Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/303180-clover-unsupported-platform-f4208ca9-on-optiplex-755/ Share on other sites
jamiethemorris
You can and should use the one from your Lion install. Chameleon wizard might have got something wrong. I have always used Champlist for that, although now that I'm using Clover, I use Clover Configurator to generate the smbios. On your USB, when you install Chameleon to it, it should create the Extra folder automatically, then just use the org.chameleon.boot.plist and smbios.plist from your existing Lion install. Fake SMC should be installed in Extra on the USB drive, once the installation is complete you when then install it to S/L/E on your hard drive. Use the latest FakeSMC from either Slice or kozlek, and make sure to take note of any other kexts you are using on lion by using kextstat | grep -v apple Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/303180-clover-unsupported-platform-f4208ca9-on-optiplex-755/#findComment-2092941 Share on other sites

jamiethemorris
Which smbios did you use when you tried to install Clover anyway? Unless your lion install is using MacPro1,1 or something like that that is unsupported in later versions of OS X, it should be fine. MacPro3,1 should work for pretty much anything. Jimmiegin
Hi, thanks for the replies. I tried using the Boot.plist and SMBios from from my Lion installation but no go. I will try again later with the chameleon bootloader. The clover version I used was a version used by cpukid in his tutorial. He did point out it is the only version he could get to work with Yosemite but it didn't work for me so I will go ahead and try chameleon but what version should I use? I also don't get why my pre-installed lion boots fine in the 755 but when trying ANY kind of installation on any media it just plain don't work! Anyway I have got Lion running and I just installed an EVGA 210 and it is working well. I need to start another thread or do a search to figure how to get QE/CI working though. Thanks for your input, I will take It and try again armed with a little more knowledge and update the thread.
