1. My install method:  http://olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3836.  Or choose your install methods. There's plenty out on this site.

2. Make sure you are on Bios Version 205.  (You can use the version I have PMPatchedG73SwAS.205.zip or use original Asus Bios from their site but make sure to use Without PMPatched Bios AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext.zip along with the rest of

.

3. Restart, press "ESC", and choose to boot with USB you just created. When you get to clover boot screen choose "Boot Mac OS X From OS X Install USB" Make sure you choose GUID partition scheme in diskutil and format/name your drive "Mav". And follow the directions to finish OS X Install.

4. After you install, restart, press "ESC", and boot with the same USB. Once you see clover boot screen choose "Mav" or whatever you named it. Make sure to go through setup. Once your on desktop, install Enoch-rev.2266.pkg onto Mav Drive (Do not restart).  Use kext wizard to copy all kexts in S/L/E from package (make sure to check mark "backup kexts that will be replaced") and repair permission/rebuild cache.  Copy Extra to root of Mav Drive.  Restart and enjoy what's working.

5.  Navigate to S/L/Displays/Overrides and delete DisplayVendorID-daf.  Copy the one attached in the Overrides folder.

6.  Thanks to Rehabman's hard work we have gestures on our TrackPad plus Keyboard Backlit.  Look in S/L/E for AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext, ApplePS2Controller.kext and delete it.  Within 10.9 MBP 8,4.zip there's a Rehabman's VoodooPS2 folder.  Copy VoodooPS2Daemon to /usr/bin ( This is only nessesary if you want to disable trackpad while mouse is plug-in).  https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-Voodoo-PS2-Controller

- Change keyboard shortcut for each gesture to work!

- Press Ctrl Alt + or - (on number pad) for keyboard backlit.

sudo cp VoodooPS2Daemon /usr/bin

What's working: Speedstepper/ALC 269(patched Updated AppleHDA plus IOAudioFamily)/Atheros 9285/GTX 460/Ethernet/Sleep and shutdown, HDMI video/Audio, USB 3.0/Backlit keyboard (With new DSDT/VoodooPS2 by Rehabman), TrackPad with gestures, Display Brightness (Thanks to asusg73).

What's not working: SD Card (will never work), battery icon, AGPM......  Work in progress!

Use these kext's at your own risk!

Fix for App Store/IMessage/ICloud

Just do this:
1. Add this to your org.chameleon.Boot.plist:

<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
<string>Yes</string>

2. Remove all Network interfaces
3. Remove /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
4. Reboot
5. Read your Ethernet Network Interface. This must be en0. (not en1, en2...)

Enoch-rev.2266.pkg.zip

HWSensors.5.4.944.pkg.zip

DisplayVendorID-daf.zip

To enable LCD brightness, make sure dsdt contains PNLF device. Add this key to your boot plist and set graphics enabler to no.

Nice one guys. I will test these when I get back this afternoon. :-)

EDIT: Pretty cool :) Brightness is working which is awesome on this laptop, I noticed that the lowest setting turns the display off completely which is nice - makes it easier when mirroring.

I have: Speedstep, Brightness, Audio, HDMI (Video), Sleep, Wake, Shutdown, Wifi, Ethernet, Volume control, Correct display detection with resolutions

I don't have: Audio over HDMI - for some reason? Option for power nap

Notes: If I use the DSDT that was posted by asusg73 I lose audio, GPU seems to be running a little hotter

@jeff, very nice install :) is there something I am missing to get audio over HDMI working?

@asusg73, could you post your patched AGPM kext? How did you get power nap to show up, and backlit keys?

very nice guide thank you!

some questions…

1) is applehda / ioaudiofamily patched from  10.9 kexts or has it taken from an older ML applehda patched version?

2) with iMac 13,2 is there no need of appleacpiplatform patched kext? Does battery work properly in this way?

3) no more need of patching nvidia drivers? are they integrated in osx 10.9 ?

Thanks!

PS: I have read that optimus tech is now supported on osx. Is it true? Does it work with ALL nvidia cards for optimus ( Like 520mx or 540m ) ? I may consider changing the internal problematic fermi card (460) with a 540m one or 660 one… is intel hd3000 active in our laptop or disabled? thanks!

I am not sure how to set layoutid to 1 in clover, but once you get it set it will work with my old applehda/ioaudiofamily.  His layoutid was set to 28 in his dsdt.  Just have to adjust to 1 like the one I posted.  There is no need for patched AGPM kext.  Everything works with only 10 kexts/dsdt/Imac13,1smbios.  I just noticed what you are talking about.  I took a look at what he did to his dsdt in regards to what he had done to Nvidia and for some reason he's using GF100 instead of GF106 and hda-gfx is set to onboard-2 instead of onboard-1.  Give me sometime to redo my dsdt.  If you want to get brightness, no dsdt edit.  Just add what he has between string for device properties to Chameleon Wizard.

very nice guide thank you!

AppleHDA and IoAudiofamily was taken from my 10.8.2 install.  I will start working on a current one, Have to remember I just started 2 night ago with tinkering with maverick.  The rest in the package is current.  Battery is working properly so far.  Nvidia drivers are integrated into osx but some reason they are more dependent on mac models.  HD3000 is disabled by bios.  If i were you try out the install.

I have brightness control using that string - works well it's the backlit keys I don't have :) Everything is pretty much there, I am hoping that asusg73 will post his patched AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext because my card is sitting at about 65c. I was doing some research into the Intel HD 3000... as it happens, it's not just disabled in the BIOS, it's not physically enabled. I edited my BIOS with AMIBCP 4.5 and tried enabling it and didn't get very far, then found this:

"You cannot enable Optimus successfully. In order to have it work, all the output from the NVIDIA GPU needs to pass-thru the Optimus video path. On our mobos, the Optimus video path is bypassed, and the NVIDIA GPU feeds directly out. Ergo, the black screen when Optimus is enabled."

From an Asus rep.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/635264-bios-cpu-throttling-fix.html

So never any Intel HD 3000 for us... cheers Asus :/

EDIT: For those who are interested, here is a modded BIOS for the Asus G73SW: http://www.sendspace.com/file/nay63z

YOU USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK - BIOS FLASHING CARRIES RISKS - ONLY FOR THE G73SW

It's based on Rev 205

Adds AES support

Disables BD-PROCHOT by default to stop unnecessary throttling when not under load

Reveals all the hidden BIOS options - BE CAREFUL WITH THESE - If you don't know what it does, don't touch it.

Put the file on a FAT32 formatted key drive and use the EZ-Flash option from the BIOS (don't use the win/dos utils - the BIOS is superior)

No not yet, I noticed in your original post that you were tweaking some things so I have been looking into the Intel HD issue and a couple of other things. I've lowered the thermal limit in the BIOS so my fans kick in sooner. These things get too hot :P

As far as I can tell with AGPM, you need to edit the MacPro5,1 specifics to something like this:

Mainly changing the Threshold states and the dev and vendor IDs along with the name of the SMBIOS you are using... however, I still don't have GPU PM after using this.

Your CPU temps are the same as mine, but my GPU is 10c hotter... me thinks re-pasting is in order now it's out of warranty.... I'm gonna remove that metal film from behind the track pad too.

Just tested your updated Audio kexts - I can now see my TV in the output list, but I'm not getting sound output (although it does mute the internal speakers) does HDMI audio work on your install?

Sorry, my error - Working brilliantly - Thanks :D

Also, when do your backlit keys work? After sleep like in ML?

Yeah it was giving me a little hassle yesterday, it panicked but using -f got round that. What's it been up to your end?

Btw my GPU is running a lot cooler today it's sat at 48c at the moment... weird :rolleyes:

Kepler is starting to look good....

you will have to use -f to boot every time if you installed IReddyBattery.  To get remove you have to remove EE/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform1067.kext and restore original S/L/E/AppleSmartBatteryManager.kext.  My system is working alot better with DropSSDT=yes and use ssdt.aml.  But if I remember yesterday, the only way to get hdmi working is with DropSSDT=no.  More testing today.  I am glad your temps are down, what did you do?

After I removed AppleACPIPlatform1067.kext and AppleSmartBatteryManager.kext.  My keyboard backit is gone.  Anyone have these two kexts from 10.8 - 10.8.4 install?

Well I can remove iReddy if need be. I'd rather not have to boot with -f each time but if I have to for now then that's not a problem. Have you switched to voodoo or something else?

When you say your system runs better while dropping the oem ssdt how do you mean? Faster? I use hdmi a bit so I'd probably stick to using the ssdt for now, if you do find a better solution though, let me know :-)

I haven't actually done anything to my gpu to affect the temps. I suspect the paste they used at the factory is {censored} and nearing end of life. I'm going to begin disassembly this afternoon and re-paste with MX4. If that doesn't solve it then it could be my gpu on the way out but I'll repaste first. I had a quick look into upgrading the gpu on one of these g73s and its not a fun thing to do. Asus have used some proprietary MXM solution so it's not as easy as swapping it out. You have to flash the vbios - if you can find one that works- and some have bricked their 5xx and 6xx series gpus in the process. It looks like some decent paste and over clocking is the best solution.

My keyboard backlit hasn't come on at all so I would be keen to go down another route for those. I might have those 2 kexts from 10.8.2. Give me 20 mins and I will check.

                <key>iMac13,2</key>

                <dict>

                    <key>Vendor10deDevice0dd1</key>

                    <dict>

                        <key>Heuristic</key>

                        <dict>

                            <key>ID</key>

                            <integer>0</integer>

                            <key>IdleInterval</key>

                            <integer>250</integer>

                            <key>SensorOption</key>

                            <integer>1</integer>

                            <key>SensorSampleRate</key>

                            <integer>4</integer>

                            <key>TargetCount</key>

                            <integer>5</integer>

                            <key>Threshold_High</key>

                            <array>

                                <integer>0</integer>

                                <integer>45</integer>

                                <integer>75</integer>

                                <integer>100</integer>

                            </array>

                            <key>Threshold_Low</key>

                            <array>

                                <integer>0</integer>

                                <integer>85</integer>

                                <integer>99</integer>

                                <integer>100</integer>

                            </array>

                        </dict>

                        <key>LogControl</key>

                        <integer>1</integer>

                        <key>control-id</key>

                        <integer>18</integer>

                    </dict>

Mainly changing the Threshold states and the dev and vendor IDs along with the name of the SMBIOS you are using... however, I still don't have GPU PM after using this.

For the system to work you have to look at your smbios.plist board product: Mac-FC02E91DDD3FA6A4 then match it with AGPM/info.plist/machines xxxxxxxxxxxxx.  Edit those numbers for the system to pick up!

Ahh :D I think I might have got it... I can now see the GPU moving from 50Mhz, to 202, up to the 600's etc.

I added this:

Here is my AGPM kext, see if it works for you: http://www.sendspace.com/file/823vub

EDIT: My battery ETA has just gained 90 minutes :P

If it works for you, you'll have to add that to your kexts in the first post. I will see if I can get some better settings over the next few days, but it seems a lot better for now. My GPU is also idle at 51c now :D Not great I know, but better than it was!

EDIT2: Now idling at 48c @ 50Mhz. Awesome ^.^

not sure what you did to that info.plist but there's an error at line 103.  Won't open

Here's the one I edit it with your values:

Hrm... Must have typoed somewhere. I have been opening in text edit so it wouldn't have notified me of an error. I will redo kext shortly and repost.

God... schoolboy error :P Was missing <dict> after the Mac-XXXXXXXXXXXX string...

Cool. I am just testing so different settings in my AGPM because it looks like I only have 2 of the lower states when not plugged into AC and only the highest when plugged in lol

EDIT: Bin the previous AGPM's and try this one: http://www.sendspace.com/file/mz3lny

I can see it changing states using the HWMonitor, but I cannot find reference to it loading in the console for some reason.... it still won't go to the highest state unless plugged into A/C, but it's the best so far. It's a good thing from a battery point of view, but not if you want good performance. Unless this is a hardware thing?

@asusg73 - are you having this issue? If you fixed it, how did you manage?

EDIT2: Actually.. looks like it's not hitting the highest state at all, it can run at 1350Mhz. :/ Work in progress ;)

I had reverted back to original AGPM.  But I used those 2 kext's from 10.8.2 from above and I have battery, now the system runs pretty smooth.
