trav1085
I have Windows XP and x86 10.4.7 on my pc, dell dimension 1100. I am wondering how to set up the XP bootloader to make it boot X86 and windows. Do I have to set the partition as active as I can't get into windows, only x86. What do I do after that, just edit boot.ini and I'm done? Rammjet
1) I would suggest using the OSX bootloader. Set the OSX partition active and then boot into OSX and reveal the bootloader. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=201048 2) For windows, you set the Windows partition active. Boot Windows. Insert the OSX install DVD. Find the chain0 file on the DVD and copy it to your C:\ drive. Then edit the boot.ini file and add this line to the end: c:\chain0="Mac OS X" Here is an example of a boot.ini file: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=159052 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29323-booting-with-xp-and-x86-no-grub-or-linux/#findComment-201756 Share on other sites
timekeeper
That's what I did, I used the downloaded chain0 file from the guide, but now at the XP bootloader screen, it just goes back to the same screen instead of booting MacOSX 10.4.7. I prefer my Windows partition active and to use the Windows bootloader. Any suggestions? Sorry for the thread butt-in trav, but I was about to post a similiar thread until I saw this one Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29323-booting-with-xp-and-x86-no-grub-or-linux/#findComment-201779 Share on other sites
lukelee
Acronis OS Selector is great, and is a part of their Disk Director. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29323-booting-with-xp-and-x86-no-grub-or-linux/#findComment-201811 Share on other sites
trav1085
I can't get Acronis, because I'm not paying and I quit torrenting. I can't boot into Windows, when It set it active in gparted it just gets an Error loading operating system. I just installed it, and it worked fine before so I'll use the Darwin bootloader. Does darwin automaticly detect operating systems? I hope so, as I hear it can't be changed. cbmkgd
When you get the darwin bootloader, press F8 and you should see OS options. Windows should be in there. Out of curiosity, on what kind of partition did you install windows? Primary? Logical?
