Soündless
would it work to use this processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819111177 in my macbook?
cruckajuck
I'm curious as well... are mac processors soldered straight to the board? Or are sockets involved...
SenVa
Last i knew they were soddered to the board... but the mac mini and the imac have sockets. P.S. That newegg link isn't a core 2 duo... It is a only a core duo.

rollcage
hmm, of all the systems apple sells, making it possible to the mini to upgrade proccessors more easily? i would think that the macbook pro would have that ability over the mini. maybe it's a desktop vs notebook thing? something to do with durability? just curious, but what are the advantages to having the cpu soddered compare to using sockets? or aren't there any? RichardFanning
The processors are soldered to the board for space (height) reasons. By soldering the processor to the mainboard the clearance is greatly reduced when compared to a socket which would compromise a couple precious milimeters and the MacBook would therefore not be as thin as it is. Soündless
would a socket one fit in there if the cpu is not soldered to the mainboard?
exscape
would a socket one fit in there if the cpu is not soldered to the mainboard? Hmm, what? If you're even thinking about making it yourself - stop thinking. The CPUs are soldered because a socket is ~6mm in height (wild guess), while a soldered CPU can be mounted considerably lower. Nothing you can do about it.
novex
The only way to upgrade is switch your logic board.if you want to use you previous logic board might need a super engineer skill with machine. If the the logic board now support 2 core duo.My best opinion wait untill apple come out with their real 2 core duo then decide. http://www.ifixit.com/cart/customer/home.p...p;a=63&c=-1 P/S Anyone success to implant let me know ok novex1984@gmail.com
