gauviz
Hi , I installed osx Lion 10.7.0 on my PC. Everything is fine except my graphics. I have Sapphire 4850. By default i get 1024x768 on my display which is capable of 1920x1080 @ 60 I modified the ATI4800 kext with my device id 0x9442 , now i keep getting "Out of Range" message on my display Safe mode also gives this error. seems as if it is trying to display at some resolution which my monitor is not capable of displaying Is it possible to set a screen resoluiton from single user mode. as this is only place i can get to Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/275346-ati-4850-display-out-of-range-blank/ Share on other sites
TH3L4UGH1NGM4N
Well the reason why you're stuck at the 1024x768 resolution is because you don't have resolution changing working nor do y ou have acceleration either. Netkas provides exotic patches for the 4xxx radeon cards which you could find on his site at http://www.netkas.org which when installed should give you your native resolution plus acceleration. Don't forget to repair disk permissions after anytime you edit a kext. fantomas
Hi @ artur-pt for ATI4800Controller.kext, you do just put your ID but for ATIRadeonX2000.kext, you need to put you ID in info.plist and you need to patch ATIRadeonX2000 from the folder "MacOS". @ gauviz I have a hd 4830, which is the little sister of the HD 4850, you can use the kexts that I put in the link on this topic Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/275346-ati-4850-display-out-of-range-blank/#findComment-1791730 Share on other sites

Currently have 1360 x 768 @ 74.9 working My display is capable of 1920 x 1080 @ 60 but none of the 60Hz resolutions are working only 75Hz ones are working except 1920x1080 as my display only supports 60Hz Tried Switchresx but it doesn't seems to be doing anything Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/275346-ati-4850-display-out-of-range-blank/#findComment-1791978 Share on other sites

TH3L4UGH1NGM4N
os x itself recognizes the resolution so I'm a bit stumped as well as to why your monitor goes out of range at it's native resolution. May I suggest if you might have another 1080p monitor somewhere nearby you test it out and see if it yeilds the same results. Hangten
EDID= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EDID IMO, it would be interesting if in Windows it automatically adjust the way it should. The only way I ever toasted an EDID was by flashing the rom on my XT1900 to the model above had to reboot using floppy and type commands after the beep to restore rom. You couldn't see the display lol Hope thats not the case but ruling it out would be good.
