Funky frank
Hi, I moved my iMac harddrive to my PC and it's now my hackintosh drive (iMac logicboard trashed). It has somehow a Master Boot Record, OSX 10.6.8 boots fine with Chameleon 2RC5. But there is a small 20MB EFI Partition at the beginning of the drive. It was not visible on the iMac, but is now visible with the Hackintosh using the disk utiility. Can I format this partition with hfs+ to use it as boot partition? Or will OSX refuse to boot then? I also have problems to boot chameleon from with an OSX usb drive inserted, chameleon will not completly load, only a "loading" message is visible. Thanks. Gringo Vermelho
Go to the VoodooProjects forum, find a post by me and follow the link to the manual Chameleon installation guide in my signature. That should give you some ideas about what to do with it. It has somehow a Master Boot Record No. If the drive has an EFI partition then it's a GUID partitioned drive, those don't have an MBR boot sector. http://en.wikipedia....Partition_Table The EFI partition should not be visible in Disk Utility either, it's supposed to be completely hidden like it was on your Mac. Not sure why it has become visible. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/273196-can-efi-partition-be-removed/#findComment-1776479 Share on other sites
Funky frank
Thanks, I think I wrote the MBR on the drive. That's why the efi partition, which comes from formatting it in the iMac, is visible. Can I format the EFI partition and use it as boot volume? On Macs the EFI partition is always empty, but Apple Boot-Bios needs special positions of partitions on the drive or it will not find the partition. Actually, when you mount the EFI partition and use disk utility to format it, it become visible can't change it back to invisible. So you can use it as boot volume just need to install chameleon on it. Gringo Vermelho
Yep, the EFI partition has let out the blue smoke and is now a regular partition.
