Have you ever lost any apps or setting whens updating your Snow Leopard installation?

It should be the same with Lion. If updating to Lion wiped out all your stuff, you would know about it..from millions of furious Mac users.

So its possible? Just update to Lion?? No special tricks needed?

I can't speak for the compatibility of your hardware of course, but yes, that's how it works. When you buy Lion from the app store it downloads an installer that works the same way as a normal system update from Apple.

Due to the similaries between Lion and 10.6.8, if you're running 10.6.8 with no issues chances are good that you'll be able to update to Lion just like on a real Mac.

I did a clean Lion install and used the Migration Wizard. It did an amazing job. Just a few registration codes needed and a couple of apps that were deprecated on Lion.

Install Lion with a temporary user and then transfer your SL user from the SL disk to the Lion disk. It may help if you have separate disks for each version, rather than different ptns on the same disk.
