it will allow itself to be selected, start up, and go through to the Grey Apple screen with the spinning gear, then the Kernel Panic screen. A couple of times the KP screen popped up and then went away the start up continued to, the first time (custom install) the desktop with only the menu bar partially complete and the it hung. The Second install (full) it started up and went to the, first time, Apple start up Welcome movie with sound but the picture froze. The welcome panel stayed and the music played then faded and nothing. No mouse or keyboard control. Had to press the power button to restart. The second time, grey screen and spinning gear, then Kernel Panic screen.

Any one with any ideas as to why this is happening. The machine that I am running this on is far more equipped than some of what I have been reading that are successfully running it. But I see at least one other post where they are getting the same.

Machine:

G4 PPC 1.42 Dual processor FW800

2 GB RAM

1.2 Terabytes Internal Storage

DVR-110 (Universal)

need anymore info let me know.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks . . .

10.5 is still in beta and there is a update out that may fix this

I completely understand the status of this release. I am an AD (Registered Apple Developer) but the trip and dues to get the official disc was not in the budget at the moment.

So that update can be had by doing and or going to . . . . . .

As always ANY assistance will be greatly appreciated!

If you do have an ADC subscription, then just call up Developer Support and ask them for the help. In my case I am a dev, received the Dev Kit from a coworker who was able to go to WWDC (I was not because I had a deadline to meet) but they still support me because I have the subscription and should have access to it. In my case, I installed from the actual DVDs given out at WWDC loaned to me by a coworker who was able to attend and knows that I have an account.

His case for loaning me the physical media was that I am a dev, Apple most likely had posted by then (a false assumption, but at the time I did not know) and he was saving me the many many hours of downloading on my crappy 1.5Mb/384Kb internet connection.

I am registered, but I'm not sure that's the same as having a "subscription". I'll have to check. Plus my source for the OS is not as forthright as yours.

Funny thing though, I had a Kernel Panic in 10.4.7 and had to reboot. It came back up in 10.5 and next thing I know I have the full working welcome movie and the registration. After all that right into the working desktop. I started to set it all up and certain things weren't working right. No Networking/Internet, the Password that was setup in the registration was failing. So I was going to go back to the installer and use the Change Password. Restarted, reset the PW, and rebooted to 10.5 and Kernel Panic right off. Haven't been able to get back in since.

All I really need to do at this point and time is play with it enough to see how stable and what resources it has that might benefit me specing it for a very large installation next Spring, or sticking with 10.4 until 10.5 has had some time to mature. So right now it's just a play toy. But in time I will have need to really get to know it. Until then . . . I'll muddle through. But any assistance in getting this up and running will be greatly appreciated which would give me an early start and a worthy amount of time to investigate.

I'd hate to have to spec Vista.

Was finally able to get it to run in "safe boot" mode. Then if I restart after being in SBM, I get the Kernel Panic screen for a couple of seconds and then it continues to a full desktop. The first time it came all the way up it brought up the software updater and I installed the update that's out already. It had been suggested that this would fix my boot problem. Nope. If I don't start up in SBM first I just get the Kernel Panic screen and that all.

In reading all the posts of everyone that has gotten this to run on just about anything, I'm wondering why I'm having such a problem?

:D

Got the update to install after hours of playing and finally getting 10.5 to boot to the desktop. But no chamge in operation.

Er... It's called PPC not PCC

Busted by the spelling police :police:

OK. It's a typo. I even know what it means. PowerPC. It even has its own logo.

So . . . . . :D and I don't quite understand what this has to do with my dilemma?

P.S. (Post Script)

I'll change it so that I am PC (Politically Correct).
