Hello, is it possible to run Lion or snow leopard with QE/CI on this laptop ?

should be possible. I have the k53sv-sx178v. The only difference is that in mine has another processor built in (i7 2630qm) an it's got more RAM (8GB).

 

I got a fully working OSX Lion (10.7) incl. full QE/CI.

 

This is how I got it working:

 

Install Lion using this guide:

When you have successfully created the install-volume replace the kexts on the install-volume for Lion with the ones from "lion_install_volume.zip"

 

When you successfully installed Lion, plug in a usb mouse, for the trackpad won't work OOB. Run [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] and select "System Utilities > Rebuild Caches + Repair Permissions"

To get your Trackpad working use kexts in Trackpad.zip

 

 

The integrated HD3000 Graphics work OOB. The NVIDIA won't. I don't think there is a solution yet, 'cause it's the NV Optimus technology, which is unsupported by Apple...

 

For getting Wi-Fi to work i had to replace the built in Card with an Atheros AR5B93. Got it for 20 EUR on ebay. Try searching! When you have replaced your Wi-Fi Card use the AtherosFix (http://www.mediafire.com/?dgno4vlknnm)

 

UPDATE 08-17-2011: When you update to 10.7.1 make sure you delete the AppleHDA.kext before reboot and reboot with -v -f

 

Hope this helps you out a bit! If you got any questions, feel free to ask. It took me about 2 weeks of hard work to figure out, which kexts to use and to modify the kexts, that did not work properly for me in their original condition. I still want to write a complete setup - guide for the k53x - Notebook - Series, because there is no one yet I think (besides this little one ) Would be cool if you share your experiences here.

Awesome tutorial, just ordered my ASUS k53sv-sx178v today. I`ll definitely give hackintosh a try on this notebook.

 

Just a few questions in advance:

 

Do you still have access to your Windows 7 partition?

Did you install on MBR or GUID Partition table?

Did you install Lion straight or did you install from existing Snow Leopard Partition?

 

I already created a installation DVD for Lion on my Mac. Is there a way to boot this DVD and install it acordingly?

 

Sorry for my questions, just really looking forward to having a completely working hackintosh

Yeah I have access to my Windows 7 - Partition. I created two partitions using the DiskUtil. But you have to install Win7 BEFORE installing Lion. Otherwise you'll have the problem, that [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] won't work any longer and due to the customization with additional kexts needed to boot Lion, the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url]-CDs did not work for my Notebook.

 

I used GUID partition table, but MBR should be working, too.

 

When you have successfully created the Install-Volume you can install Lion straight. I did so, because I did not have anything important on my previous install of SL and wanted a fresh and clean Lion.

 

IMPORTANT: If you have not already: Go buy an external HDD and back up your system after each step using Carbon Copy Cloner. Awesome tool, free and definitely saving your back.

Sorry for my late reply, but I forgot I opened this topic.

 

So I figured out on my own how to install lion, after 10 times installing I finally managed to run lion, only thing not working is the wireless, sleep and a half working trackpad. Making u full guide for this laptop is a good idea !! The K53SV is a great laptop and is very popular because of its good quality and price ratio. Maybe we can make one together (my english it not to good) ?

 

So this is how I did it.

 

- Set the boot priority of the cd on top in de bios ( to get into bios, hold F2)

- Burn [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] to cd

- Put the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] cd in the laptop, wait for it to load

- Take the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] cd out of the dvd tray and insert your Snow Leopard retail 10.6 dvd, press F5

- Select Snow leopard install dvd en type the command "PCIRootUID=1", press enter

- Open disk utility and format your drive with journal

- Install snow leopard onto the disk

- Before u can boot into snow leopard u must fill in some data. I just filled in a computer name without a password en pressed next on all the other pages.

- Once booted into Snow leopard, I downloaded the 10.6.7 combo update. Installed it, DO NOT REBOOT

- If u want Windows 7, make a second partition in MSDOS fat using disk utility.

- Insert your Windows dvd and reboot from the dvd, install Windows 7 on the MSDOS fat partition, but reformat with NTFS.

- After the install u can boot into windows or snow leopard

- Boot into snow leopard, then i downloaded Lion (10.7.1) via the appstore. Following the guide of tonymac with Xmove

- Reboot and choose the installer partition.

- Install lion on the Snow leopard partition (then u get the HD3000 working out of the box).

- Once booted in Lion my keyboard didn't work so I opened [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url], selected "system utilities", "Voodoo ps/2 controller", " Lnx2Mac's Realtec installer for ethernet" and " VoodooHDA 0.2.72" for audio.

- Rebooted into lion.

 

 

Working:

Touchepad, but no multi gesture. Installing VoodooPS2Trackpad makes the trackpad total useless.

So i installed your trackpad zip next using kext utility and my mouse was flipping i had to reinstall everything :censored2: Does lion detects your trackpad and can u use multi gestures ?

 

 

ALC928 did not work for me.

 

Why did u put the lion_install_volume.zip files in you installer volume ? Also when i try to make a fresh install using the installer partition after the installation is says there is no keyboard, do u get the same error ?

 

On another forum some get the wifi working with atheros fix, but it is not working for me, I do not know where to find the info.plist

 

Also i installed the VoodooBattery.kext using next utility.

that's right. You won't get the stock Wi-Fi-Card to work. But you can fix it the way I explained just easily and fine: "For getting Wi-Fi to work i had to replace the built in Card with an Atheros AR5B93. Got it for 20 EUR on ebay. Try searching! It took me over 20 trys to figure out the right way to install Lion on this Notebook. As I need my NB for work I had to remove Lion from the HD, but cloned it to my USB-Drive and also put Chimera on it. So when I want to make the Lion roar, I simply plug in my USB-HDD and turn on the Notebook.

 

Great, that you could figure out another way to install Lion. I think your guide is also great for ppl, who don't want a new "from-scratch-install". Awesome work.

 

But let me know, which problems you got with your trackpad, plz. Maybe I can help, as mine works flawlessly!

 

BTW: I think this thread is th first worldwide, which can provide a guide for the K53SV! At least I haven't found any other.

tried installing your trackpad kexts, however when i went to reboot i couldn't boot, it would hang during boot, according to -v it hangs when this text scrolls: setting , interval 80000 or something like that. As a result i had to boot back into safe mode to remove the AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext. Do you have any other mouse kexts in your extensions folder? Besides the VoodooPS2.kext? Would really love a working MultiTouch Trackpad.

This is what I did as a work around. If you have an iPhone or iPad you can download TouchPad from Edovia, this turns ur iPhone/iPad into a multi touch trackpad. Zoom, 2 finger scroll and tap work, 3 Finger and 4 Finger swiping also works. They are updating the app to support all Lion gestures.

Is there a setting in the Bios to use Discreet Graphics card only? That will disable the Optimus part which does not work in OSX for sure.

 

Sleep should work with a proper DSDT. My sister will be buying this and I am helping her put OSX Lion on it but I know for a fact Nvidia Optimus does not work on OSX but as long as I can change the setting in the Bios all is good.

I was told by Asus Technical support you can disable integrated graphics and enable the Nvidia Discreet Graphics BIOS unless he was thinking in Windows 7. I need to look into this.

Well my particular laptop isn't the exact same as the posted one, however its the same family so they share similar hardware. Mine is the k53sv-xr1 has an q2630m i7 and nvidia gt540m graphics. The bioses should be very similar if not exactly the same. In my bios there are no options anywhere to disable the nvidia graphics card. Might be different though for different configurations.

 

Also you likely won't be able to use the nvidia graphics card, as far as i know, no one has had any luck getting hardware acceleration on the gt540m. I know one user tried to modify a next that allowed the gt520 series to work however it doesn't work on the 540s. The hd 3000 graphics works out of the box tho with Lion.

I have a related K53Sv model, SX047D (K53Sv-2410M-S4ENAN-SX047D) with the following hardware:

Intel HM65 Express Chipset

Intel Core i5-2410M (with Intel HD Graphics 3000)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M with 1GB DDR3 VRAM

 

Did the following (tnx to popcornbag and tonymac project):

- Restore Snow Leopard retail 10.6.3 to flash drive of 8Gb (from MacOS on another PC)

- Burn [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] to DVD

- Set the boot priority to DVD (to get into BIOS, hold F2)

- Put both [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] DVD and flash drive in the laptop and wait for them to load

- Select Snow Leopard Install DVD (in my case - restored DVD is on flash drive) then type the command "PCIRootUID=1" (it took long time to figure this out, I had always had kernel panic before), press enter

- Open Utilities/Disk Utility and divided drive to 3 partitions. Two of them format to MS-DOS (one for Windows 7, one for other data), third format with Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

- Install Snow Leopard onto the third partition

- Once booted into Snow Leopard, I downloaded the 10.6.8 combo update and [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url].

- Open [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url]. Install 10.6.8 update (DO NOT REBOOT when installer asks)

And everything seemed going fine but here I've got two problems:

 

1. Booting from HDD I always have:

Partition of MacOS is primary, active. HDD is 640GB, not 1.5TB or 2. What could you advise?

What brand is the harddrive? Do you know what size of sectors it has? Older HDD's have a sector of 512 byte while many newer and bigger drives have a sector of 4096 byte (4k). Chameleon (and other bootloaders made from it such as Chimera) have trouble installing to these drives because of the new sector size. See here.

 

I have an Asus K53SC wich has a 500 GB Western Digital wich is affected by this. I have had to install Chimera to a USB memorystick and set the computer to boot from that instead until someone fixes this problem in the chameleon sourcecode.

I recommend getting something tiny like the Verbatim Store N Go wich I use.

It says in the description that it uses "Advanced Format:

Advanced Format increases the physical sector size on hard drives from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes, which increases drive capacities and improves error correction capabilities.

The "512e" that the stats show means that it is only emulating 512 byte sectors.

So it appears to be the 4k sector bug you are experiencing.

No, you can't do something like that. Sector size is set in the hardware and you can't change it.

Yes, I saw some solutions like this:

Check if the boot1h file is still where it should:

The boot1h file is inside of the i386 file wich you either get by unpacking the chameleon/chimera .pkg or compiling them from their sourcecode. You can find more about doing this if you google it.

I've already tried it though and for me it seems to be a no go. As far as I can see the boot1h seems to have stuck to the drive but simply won't load properly.

On another note... I have an Asus K53SC which have a blue USB 3.0 port wich I can't get working in OSX. OSX Immediatly shuts it down at boot because it uses too much power. I believe this is caused by it supporting Asus "Ai Charging" feature for faster charging of the iPhone for example.

Anyone have any fixes for this?

I have the new sector size as well and I was able to get my drive to boot chameleon by installing it to the EFI !! Works for now until Chameleon eventually supports the newer Advanced Formated drives 512E (4k sectors)

Hello to everybody! I hope you can help me with some questions I have.

 

I recently bought an Asus A53s (k53sv family, and basically the same computer: same processor and graphic card, 4gb of ram) and I'm thinking about installing mac os on it. This is my first hackintosh experience, so i have some questions:

 

1- acording to what I read in this post, the process is basically installing snow leopard first, and then upgrading it to Lion, which has to be bought as an upgrade in the apple store. Is this correct? If so, there is not another way to installing without having to pay ? (or just keeping snow leopard). This is just a trial and I don't know whether or not I'll keep using mac os, so i wouldn't like to pay for it before trying.

 

2- Right now, I have both Fedora and Windows 7 installed in my drive. Will I be able to keep them? (I mean keeping them like they are now, without having to erase them and then installing them again. Im specially worried about win7 because my copy is original but I dont have an installation DVD, so if I erase it I'll loose my original copy). I have free disk space to create partitions if needed.

 

3 - The bootloader is going to be able to run my 3 OS, or I will need to install grub later and configure it manually?

 

4- Will I be able to keep my data in at least one partition without fear of that partition being destroyed? Or will i need to backup everything in every partition on my HDD?

 

5 - When I install linux distros, I usually create an install USB. Is it possible to do this with mac os retail DVD, to avoid burning discs? (this last question is not very important, but I don't loose anything asking).
