I'm planning on updating my gfx card and originally I was going to pick up a GTX 470, but after reading through a number of the treads, it sounds like performance on a GTX 470 is still a bit hit-or-miss.

I want to use this card with Adobe apps, DaVinci Resolve, etc that all take advantage of CUDA.

Would I be better off just picking up an older GTX 285 instead? Will I see better performance in those apps from a GTX 470 or is the support not quite there yet?

If I do pickup a GTX 470, which brand/version seems to be working the best for people right now?

Thanks in advance.

I think I can get a GTX 285 for far cheaper. I'd rather go with the the 470, but if the performance is going to be the same then the 285 seems like it's a smarter buy, especially since it sounds like it's just plug and play.

Bit if I get a better proforming card with the 470, then I'd rather go that route.

If you can get a GTX 285. Even PC version of the card is/was hard to find. Never found a new one, just a bunch of different used ones on ebay and the prices werent that much cheaper than a new GTX470.

I went with 470 MSI Twin-frozr, suits my needs using GPU accelerated Mercury Playbact engine (CUDA) in PP.CS5.

Card can be used for install, and using newest Quadro drivers QE/CI working with GraphicsEnabler in boot.plist. Depending on ModelIdentifier, AGPM.kext needs to be edited to recognize your device(maybe even with non-Apple GTX 285?). Also PP requires adding your device for CUDA functionality.

470 is not hard to get running nor have I found it unstable.

Just did 4-hr VDMX set without hiccup, many more to come.
