ribtin
Hello guys. I've been trying to get hackintosh up and running for about a week now, but cannot for the life of me get it to run. First I tried to install iAtkos s3v2 and iAtkos v7, with the chameleon rc5 bootloader. Although I did eventually manage to install it this way, it wouldn't boot. I've been reading and reading, and a lot of people who understand this all much better than me, seem to think that using a boot-132 and retail disk is preferable. So I've been trying out different bootisos. The furthest I got with any of them was starting up the installation program, but when I entered disk utility, it refused to find my disk, even though it showed up when I tried iAtkos. I've also tried using different empireEfi bootisos, but those wont even let me start the OSX installer. I don't really have any specific question right now, but the reason why I'm writing here now is mostly to vent some frustration. Ignorantly I had never imagined installing OSX on a PC would be so difficult, but as I've spent so much time trying to get it to work now, I refuse to surrender! I've seen some others have posted that they've been able to get it to work with similar hardware as mine, so I know it's possible, and I'm trying my best to read up about stuff, but it feels like I'm drowning in configuration hell. If anybody would like to look at my hardware specs, and perhaps point me to a right direction as to what would be the best approach to do this, then I would be extremely happy. Although I did eventually manage to install it this way, it wouldn't boot. what do you mean? boot whit -v and give pic where it gets stuck, you most likely didnt select all the right packages when you isntalled as i knw this mobo works. once we get the iaktos working i can help you on your way to a full retail (easier than it sounds) Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/260993-im-going-crazy/#findComment-1705007 Share on other sites
ribtin
Thanks for your answer. I will try to install iAtkos again, and take a screenshot. Do you have any hints as to what might be the right packages for me to install within iAktos? dothacker
i dont know if it's just me, but I haven't seen an iATKOS install that is sucessful in an AMD platform. Yes, retail install is preferable, and i know you did that already, but did you use ##### after the install, to setup the /Extra folders and the files needed to make it run from the HDD? You haven't mentioned anything like a modded kernel or anything, because Vanilla kernel will not run on AMD. just my .02. You haven't mentioned anything like a modded kernel or anything, because Vanilla kernel will not run on AMD. just my .02. Hello and thank you for your answer. The reason why I tried iAtkos was that while googling for my motherboard (M4A89TD) and hackintosh, I found several people around the web that claimed to have made it work with iAtkos installation. Conserning kernels, I have read a bunch of forums which mentions my motherboard, which all say they selected the quoopz 10.3 kernel in the setup, so I have been going with that on every attempt. Is that perhaps not right? Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/260993-im-going-crazy/#findComment-1705307 Share on other sites
ribtin
Wehey! I finally got it up and running! Awesomeness! Now, I have what is probably a very stupid question: Is there a way to install/remove packages from the installation without having to install everything from scratch? There's a bunch of stuff not working (audio, network, ntfs) and I would really like to not have to make the complete installation again. I've tried to run the iATKOS s3v2 .iso, but it won't let me unselect the "iATKOS S3 Main System" box, and insists on installing everything. ifrit05
It's not possible to de-select the base install on non-retail discs (hacked DVD's). You could "show" hidden files/folders and pop the DVD in (or mount the iso) and navigate to /System/Installation/Packages/ and look for the package you want to install manually. Or you could search the in vast sea of the internet for the packages/kext's themselves. ribtin
aha, thank you very much for your help. I'm a bit confused about the DSDT though. Some forums says I should install the DSDT for my motherboard, after I've successfully installed OSX. I downloaded the DSDT from here: http://www.kexts.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1289 and tried to install it with #####, using the 'User DSDT' option, but then it wouldn't boot and I had to start from scratch. Do I have to install the mobo DSDT to get my onboard sound and network to work, or will it also work if I just install the right sound and network kexts? sirbow2
you get the DSDT by loading it from YOUR mobo. use perl -e 'open(CMD, "ioreg -lw0 \| grep DSDT|") or die; while(<CMD>) { chomp; if($_ =~ /\"DSDT\.?\d?\"=<([^>]*)>/) { $buff = $1; open(PIP, "|xxd -r -p > ~/Desktop/dsdt.aml") or die; print PIP "$1"; } }' from the way you talk you probably dont know much about editing one? http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=81816 extract then run it, attach the send_me.zip that is created to a post here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...235523&st=0 and he will try to help you. Thank you for your response. I was going to try this, but my system broke down whilst updating to OSX 10.6.4, and I had to start over again.. =) You are right in assuming that I am very much still a noob at all this (though I'm trying my best to learn) and my question was actually if I need to this DSDT installation, and if so why? I've tried to read up on it the best I can, and as far as I understand it is mostly needed if you create a boot-132 cd for retail installation? DSDT is "Differentiated System Description Table" which is one of the ACPI tables, it's recommended to edit your MOBO dsdt to match OSX drivers, that's way you can use OSX Vanilla Drivers, maybe this way you could solve a lot of problems, including sound, lan, and some other things that doesn't meet the eye.
