tomaszo2
Hello, After using my Hackintosh since 18 months in an ASUS PC- Case I finally found a G5 case and started working on the project. It took me nearly 40 hours with the problems of soldering the front panel connector in the right way.I used the Motherboard tray from my PC- Case, which I cut apart. I also used the connectors, cables, LED etc. (The white power-LED is the original one) My solution is described in the following pictures......ASUS P5Q Deluxe Motherboard. I´m satisfied that I spent some more money for a real good Board (140€). I always tried to reduce the noise of my former real Macs.... but when I first started this combination with standard- fans, I nearly heard nothing. ASUS P5Q Deluxe Intel Core Duo E7400 MSI 9400GT 1024MB 4GB Corsair DDR2 800MHz When I look at my pictures now I ask myself why did I lift up the PSU in the air? I didn´t know how to fix it from underneath! But there is another advantage. One can place all the unused PSU cables beneath the PSU and has remaining space for a third HDD.I´m satisfied: its a clean, easy solution, with enough remaining space. I couldn´t get FireWire working on the front panel. Therefore I removed the Pins.

eelhead
Yeah great job, that PSU set up is awesome. Love the outside of the box thinking on placement!
zammykoo
Very interesting PSU placement, as mentioned above. Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't that block the air intake from the front side?
tomaszo2
Very interesting PSU placement, as mentioned above. Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't that block the air intake from the front side? I only closed 70% of the zone below the blank sheet that carries the PSU. Compared to my former PC-Case, which was totally closed at the front side, I now can hear the Fan of the PSU a little bit. Therefore I fixed this little piece of plexiglas in front of the PSU, but without result. But this high- energy efficient MoBo and PSU does not produce heat or noise. In my G4 Quicksilver I used the Gigabyte 41M 2ESL Micro- ATX board, which cost only 50€ with a BeQuiet 430W Pure Power L7. This combi produces much more noise than the G5 ASUS, but the two are much better than the original.
